Any ice in Vail?

I know it's way too early for the Des' but is there any ice in the Firehouse or Spiral Staircase area?

It was dark when I drove by last night so I didn't have a great view but I didn't see anything yet. Might have been some dark thin smears but couldn't tell.

Nothing substantial. Pumphouse looks best, but still very thin. No Dez, not sure about Spiral.

does anyone know if the rope is still hanging off of the fang? I know I was up there a few weeks ago and the rope actually had ice forming on it.

Kevin I tried to contact you through here in another forum. I wasn't sure if you were on this site. Your rope came down the next morning from the weight of the ice. I believe we have some gear of yours as well. Since then its been really warm and there is no ice worth climbing yet. It was in the 60's yesterday with a few inches of snow today. Really cold temps over the next few days will help tremendously. I will be up there tomorrow so I'll let you know what I see.

oddball access question:

@ the pumphouse parking lot, a fee sign is now there -- is that for the use of the Nordic track course?

Speaking of the course, a couple of skiers gave us the thumbs up not stepping on the course track. I guess there's been friction between the user groups; we did our part as was taught to me. the directional signage helps.

I ask the dude grooming the ski tracks on Saturday about the fees and he said it was for the skiers and snowshoers.

Oddly, there is a similar sign to the east, nearly exactly the same, minus the ice climber bit. Might be useful ammo should the need arise.

Drove by on Wednesday (12/26). Looks like everything is in and fat except the Fang.
