I'm looking to build my lead skill on ice this season, I have done top rope on ice. I got myself a copy of the Ice Climber's Gudie to Catskill. Any idea which ones/areas I should focus on? I have the basic protection skills down, I followed a few time last season. I want to take a plunge to the sharp edge :)

Stoney Clove has some nice climbs to start lead on. Deep Notch is also good. Deep Notch has alot of WI2-3 that are decent to take the sharp end on.

Great, thanks. Just another quick question, I remember in Catskill, you are allowed to camp anywhere as long as it's below 3,500' and 150' away from water source, is that still the case?

sure is. 150' from trails and water. If you go up to black chasm, there is a lean to in the area.

Ha, your not kidding. If you ever need a partner in the catskills let me know. I plan on being up there pretty regularly.
