I'm headed to Thailand for about a year, on a volunteer trip. I've read a little bit about the climbing out there and the efforts to rebolt some of the nasty routes. Does anyone know if there is an organized effort to do this yet? I'm thinking that I'd love to go help with this-->who wouldn't? I'm looking for someone/people that would be able to help with a place to stay, for whatever work needs to be done to create a sustainable, safe climbing location...in this incredible place. i have 6 years of trail building experience as well...any connections out there??
i think there is some info on the rebolting effort in sam lightner's guide book... i am pretty sure it has enough to get you started. As far as places to stay... if you don't get a hookup, you can generally find accomodations around $6-$18 (200-600 baht) a day, esp in the off season
You might want to get in touch with Greg Barnes at the ASCA (www.safeclimbing.org). He has organized at least one trip there for bolt replacement, and even if he cannot help you with lodging he may be able to supply some hardware for the replacement project.
Good Luck,
Kevin

I found this website that should hook you up with re-bolting, lodging, and climbing partners.
Thanks, this website has tons of great information an i sent an email to Mr. Greg Barns as well. i appreciate the help, I'm really trying to find a way to make this happen.
and looking at pictures of Ko Phi Phi's beaches is getting me (as if i wasn't already) so pumped about being able to experience climbing over there...
