After 15+ years of climbing here, I've yet to understand two things: What species the spiders are down there, and two, why are they quite large?

I've also seen lots of Banded Garden Spiders www.insectidentification.org/insect-description.asp?identifi>>> which are some seriously monstrous things. I stay off those routes!
