Actually, strangely this is NOT a heavily doctored version! All I did was take the raw scan and crank the brightness up. The original slide is underexposed, and scanners seem to have trouble with this. I think I need to get this pic rescanned, the slide does not look like this.
I've been using a pacific images u1800 and honestly I'm not impressed with how well it is representing detail- not great resolution. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I've seen a lot better. What are you using? Are you happy with it other than this image?
All my photos taken before 2000 are commercial Photo-CD slide scans done about 10 years ago (after that - digitial). Photo-CD was an interesting idea because you get the same photo at 5 different resolutions. I'm happy with most of them, but for printing I would still go back to the original. In fact I'm thinking of having them all rescanned. This photo in particular scanned poorly.
