I did it about 10 years ago, and very early in my career. It was on toprope and I don't remember much about it. It certainly was a great route from what I remember. It certainly is a shame that this route and all the others at Gibrater are closed.
Mother Bear is fun and good but it pales in comparison to the route Locomotive, which is the next major crack line to the right of Mother Bear when standing looking up at the wall. I have climbed both routes as leads and although "Mother Bear" is good, I think "Locomotive" may deserve one or more stars..
This area is only closed to people that get drunk on top of the bluffs and then decide they can fly. Fast and light tactics allow for much climbing to be had. Mother Bear is a very nice problem, if you can stand wasp nests the entire length up. A TR is do-able, but I had to set my anchors about 15 ft down the face with webbing just so my rope would hit the deck.
