Devil's Thumb from the West. The route starts from the notch, climbs behind the left side, and emerges on the right near the top. The rappell is down the left side to the notch.
Approach, follow the really defined trail north from the parking lot. When you get to the split in the trail, do not follow the Devil's Pass Trail but the High Lonesome Trail to the left over the hill.

Approach to notch. Since someone posted that they did a rap to get to the notch, I figured I would post the route we took. All of it seemed to be 3rd-4th class aside from about 6 feet of down climbing that was maybe 5.3-5.4. There is an old piton just before the down climb and it seemed to match the description I saw elsewhere....
