It seems that about every third post is related to someone either leaving or finding something.

Does this seem crazy? Is it a gear leaving epidemic?

The woman who had to leave some gear on Longs due to the weather has a very legit reason. Same goes with the guy who performed a rescue in Eldo. It seems that the majority are just people walking away without their gear.

I'm not saying I'm holier than thou. I spaced 14 cams at the Coffin in LCC 5 years ago. Even though I got every single piece back, I still feel stupid. It's as easy as taking 30 seconds to walk in a couple circles around your bag. To me, it's time well spent.

So what do you think the protocol is? I've posted on all the climbing forums about the gear I found (just sitting on the ground). Say wait 30 days and call it mine?

one month seems legit. i got a guy back his sunglasses the other day. if people are looking for things they know where to find them. if you don't know you lost something in a month....well, you don't know you ain't got it=booty.

it does feel good to get things back to their rightful owner though. because like someone said, we all lose things. hopefully it all comes around.

I hear you. I found (and posted) a harness that I found at Cob Rock. We were the second group there and thought someone left it for a late partner. We were the last ones to leave in the rain and it was still there.

How could you forget your harness and not know it's been missing for so long? I can't even use it!!! Wrong size.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
