Perhaps unique user names would be good. When I log in, I see my username, but there is at least one other person who shares it. I'm willing to change mine... how do I do that?

Bruce Hildenbrand wrote:Andy, I guess listing areas by state is probably the most logical way to do it (versus having smaller geographical areas like Boulder). Places like California and Colorado might get a whole lot of areas, hopefully it will be manageable. One other suggestion I would make is to have the ability to change area names, route names and route locations. Sometimes, people get one of these three things wrong and as it used to happen on CB.com there appeared to be nothing that could be done about it. Also, it would be good to be able to delete a route as sometimes the same route gets added twice. I dont' think these things should necessarily be able to be done by Joe Anybody User but, there should be some administrator type person who can make this happen. Bruce
Bruce -

you have full editing control over any content you've contributed. Look for the red "edit" link next to content you've contributed and you can edit, delete, rename etc.

For instance, you should see a red edit link near the route name. Same goes for photos, etc.

One of the goals of the new format was to give users better ownership of the information they supply.

Hope this helps,
Andy

Hi Todd,

All usernames are unique - you're the only "Todd" (with nothing else). See...
mountainproject.com/scripts…

If you'd like us to change your name once we do the final import - no problemo.

One comment about the layout of the sight. For me, both the "route" forums and the "community" forums have equal weight. I think there should be a click through to get to the community forums (there kind of is one of those now). And, instead of showing the most recent posts regardless of topic, the most recent topics (like RC.com and supertopo.com) should be shown. Also, the number of posts is really helpful in deciding to read or participate in a particlular forum topic.

Cheers,

Bruce

With respect to Wyoming, any chance of getting info put up for Jackson, Fremont, Wind Rvr Range, as well?

Or is that something that users input by suggesting a new area? (ie these areas have not yet been entered into the database.)

As a resident of Jackson Hole... I second that motion! Hopefully once we're live in two weeks, people will start adding content to the Wyoming area. If you have information, feel free to add it! I plan to add the climbs I've done in the region.

My one real request is that the forums stay well-moderated. I don't know if you've seen the carnage on rockclimbing.com, but it can be pretty bad. I belong to a couple of message boards that are actually filled with decent discussions that don't progress into all-out flame wars, and since you're starting from scratch here it'd be great if you could go along those lines.

Hell, I could even help moderate if you like. ;)

I love the looks and features of the site so far. Hopefully it'll grow into something really great.

Hey, if you're serious about moderating, let us know! The forum is new and, as of yet, doesn't have any official moderators.

This goes for anyone else out there too! We're looking for people we can trust (meaning they probably have a history of making contributions to the site), and have time and willingness to check the site at least every few days.

I would definitely help moderate some of the forum's.

I'd be happy to help out with the moderation. I was pretty active on climbingboulder.com back when it started up and I was living in Boulder. I can easily find the time to be around here.

I'd also be happy to help out as a moderator. I'd also be happy to help administer the Colorado area of the site. I'm retired and have lots of free time, especially in the winter when I'm not out climbing every day!

One suggestion for the site. When you are posting information such as route data, comments, etc. it would be great if, as they have on SuperTopo.com, there was a button to return to the forum or location from which you did your posting. As a bit of a clarification, if I go to say Route XXXX and decide to post a comment, that brings me to the page that allows me to post the comment. When I submit my comment, that brings me to a page that tells me my comment has been submitted. If I just hit the "back" feature on my browser, it takes me back through the page that allowed me to enter my comment. It would be great if there was a button that skipped that page and took me straight back to the route I was looking at before I decided to post my comment.

SuperTopo has a "Return to Forum" button which accomplishes this for forums.

Cheers,

Bruce

With respect to Ron's post. I'd be all for it, was wondering if there was an idea of promoting something like a Group's forum.

My example would be for climbers volunteering in the CMC (or other group - as an example) to have an exchange of trips, thoughts, & pertinent issues. It seems we just can't get messages between us without shot-gun type e-mails. Don't know if this works or not for this Project, but a bunch of us in Dvr would like better communication between parties to continue promoting safe & enjoyable climbing trips.

Any advice or response appreciated.

We're considering implementing a "Groups" feature similiar to Yahoo groups that would be perfect for this. A group would have their own forum, photos, news, events, etc.

Might be a month or so away, but we'll most likely do it.

Back on the forum moderating topic...(a few too many threads going here) - thanks for volunteering. We'll get something set up when we return from vacation. While gone, we have access to the site, but none of our development or internal tools...

Is there a reason you have to be logged in to read community forum posts? I can see having to be logged in to post a reply but, don't understand the logic of having to log in just to read posts.

Thanks,

Bruce

Cool. Thanks! I definitely will want to change it once it's time.

Thanks much!

I'd be willing to help moderate as well. I'm a moderator on rockclimbing.com, so I've some experience with that sort of thing.

By the way,

The site looks really good. I hope people stick around and contribute in the same way as CB.com

This site is really coming together nicely; awesome work!

It's kinda fun just tooling around all the destination routes & reading up on various forum posts.

One thing that I have noticed. I post a route and rate it with the FA rating; but then I climb the more natural/popular variants that are rated differently than the original line, I can't offer my opinion as to the route's rating unless I change the FA rating. Any thoughts??

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
