So,

The new ten sleep guidebook is both art and a guidebook but it ain't cheap! Who's getting it? Who's not? Just wondering what people think of this type of guidebook.

Just bought 2. You see, I feel that artistry, talent and hard work should be rewarded.

savage price, looks like that burnt out hippy devils tower book. They should have made it in 2 parts, with all the topos and salient stuff in one section. i suppose someone has to pay for all the drugs!

This may be making it to easy for some but here it goes..."I don't get it". I mean, why?

anyone know why he's calling it/not planning to publish another guide?

It might actually end up being quite a collectors item.

I am ignorant about Ten Sleep and any guides that may exist for the area but if a "real" guide is published that contains more current info the value of this weirdness will fall fast. If there is an alternative guide for sale that has the required info in it I would by that since any artistic value the book has will be greatly diminished by the service wear that it will receive in the field. I would only buy this guide if it was the only one available or I was interested in preserving it.

I considered this! But then I looked at my destroyed rumney and rrg guidebooks... I don't think sport climbing collectors editions are a good idea. Plus isn't that up to people to decide (collectors and not the author? Chouinard didn't make pitons thinking they would be sold on eBay)

You will have a hard time finding you way around Tensleep with just MP data. I am not sure if the new shady routes are online yet.

That's why you gotta get two. One for the field, one for the shelf. Stock up.

SO THATS WHY? My brother always said he needed 2. "1 to shit on, and one to cover it up with. "

OK then.

Got mine today. It's pretty awesome and pretty stupid. Just like climbing. If you've got a $100, a sense of humor and no sense, go for it. Compared to a Mercedes Sprinter, it seems like a great deal.

Nice. There is a company in Boulder that does buys a book re-bounds it in leather and sells it for $300. $100 is a bargain :-)

I don't know if anybody else on FB saw it, but the author wrote a note saying it was the publisher that set that price. He actually seemed quite upset about it. Sorry can't find the link, but he was not happy with the price or changes made to the cover.

"someone"? To write a guide is a colossal amount of work. The author decided to make it the way he wanted to, and that is completely his right. If you think someone should make less of a coffee table book and more of a field book maybe YOU should do it. It's like complaining at the state of an aging bolt.

Just saying that it seems like someone would like to capitalize on the demand for an affordable guide book. Of course the author has the right to do whatever he wants and it sounds like he doesn't like the price either. As a collectors item, I get it. Sure, it's really cool. As a field guide, it's impractical.
Assuming that anyone actually makes real money off of guidebooks, which is a big assumption.
