suggestions on mountaineering gear

i've been thinking about some of my future plans and i'm a little curious to find out what equipment fellow climbers are using, what they like about it, and what they dont like about it. Here is the scenerio winter ascents in the montana, wyoming, and colorado area mixed mountaineering and alpine style climbing around 13-14,000 ft.

The questions:
1. What 4 season tents are good and which ones are junk?
2. What would be a good down sleeping bag? (and i do like to buy american so i'm leaning towards Western Mountaineering bags).
3. What would be good insulated pants? Do i want pants with an abrasion resistant shell (i guess dependent on whether or not they're going to the summit or camp pants?) or would i be better off with something more compressable and a little less durable.
4. I've got a pair of lowa moutain expert gtx boots for the warmer stuff, but i've been looking at boots like the scarpa phantom guides. Does anyone have any experience with these boots or know how warm they are? or any other boot reccomendations?

Thanks for any opinions or help

Let me try to answer your question in a general way:

1. A tent with the space you need, lighter weight and that's on sale should do you well.

2. WM is good so are many others..if you want American try Feathered Friends.

3. I have never worn out a pair of pants - without abrasion panels so I am unsure why people bother to pay more and then carry the extra weight. If you're a guide or spend a sh t load of time in the pants..then I could understand needing bombproof pants. Camp pants you won't need the abrasion paneled pants for but you should just find a pair that works for both applications so you don't carry 2 pairs.

4. Whatever fits your feet and meets you application will be the correct pair.

This is all IMHO. Others will I am sure have differing opinions - that you should obtain to help you form your own opinion.

I think the lowa gtx boots will work fine unless you are just dying to spend lots of money. I took mine up 5000 and 6000 meter glacial mountains (in the summer) and they were fine.

The north face 4 season tents worked great for me, even in high winds. There was a used one for sale on mountain project a couple weeks. You won't go wrong getting a north face or mountain hardwear tent, IMO.

WM down is worth the extra $$$. I love mine. Very warm. I've had the best luck with a mtn hardwear 4 season tent. Just make sure you have a tent that you can set up in a hurricane and has options to guy-line it out. Single-wall tents are awesome too. Ditto on wearing out pants. Good luck.

There are quite a few four season tents out there that will function well enough for your needs, but I strongly recommend Hilleberg. Incredible build quality/toughness and very reasonable weight.
Valandre makes my favorite bags; the Shocking Blue would likely suit your needs. Montbell is a solid value if money is a consideration.
I'd go Integral Designs Denali on the pant, though I'd be a little surprised if you used them a whole lot for your stated goals.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
