Peter Lockey. One of the most important Lake District pioneers of the late 1950's.Peter led the final pitch of Route 1 .While doing this he took a fall from the last moves and fell most of the way down the smooth upper wall, after a bit of bad language he completed this impressive pitch. He later founded Britain's largest outdoor manufacturing company Berghaus.

Historic photo.Paul Ross on the first ascent of The Horror variation in 1966.Starts from the top of the first pitch of Haste Not. From the large block on the left of the photo after two pitons were used that expanded the block(later fell off after a free ascent by Ron Fawcett at a very high grade), then from the top loose piton a lasso was made with a 1/4" sling over the roof onto what turned out to be just a small flat projection. The photo shows Ross committed on this sling with a no return option. The move over the roof was eventually compleated and his second Peter Myers followed in gathering darkness . A more easy second pitch up a fine wall above got them to the top of the crag. Photo Peter Myers.

Chris and the terriers relaxing after the climb. The section of rock behind Chris is the location of the Mile and a Quarter traverse ,the length of this 800' high piece of rock with a only few routes has lots of potential for first ascents. Hopefully those climbers putting up 30/40'high "trad" routes will consider moving on to the areas of BIG rock that is still unclimbed in the Western States

The route over a 1000'at about 5.8+ takes a line up the center of the face.In the evening light the lions face is very prominent.
