I thought it was a great lead, a lot of fun climbing the tree. Stepping back onto stone is a lot of fun and fairly committing. The gear is bomber; however, the climbing is pretty stiff for 5.7 but is all there and it's a major jug haul.

Location: CO : Grand Junction area : Colorado National Monument : Independence Monument : Otto's Route (5.8+) By: Turnbuckle When: Oct 23, 2012 | view comment >> | Comments: This is a awesome climb and a must do. I climbed this for the first time last month and came back two weeks later to bring another friend up. The first time I climbed this I listened to all the spray about all the gear you need, so I brought a ton of gear only to see the party ahead of me climbing in bare feet with just a set of quickdraws. I would not suggest that to anyone; however, the second time I climbed it I brought a single set of Camalots up to a #4 and some stoppers. Yo... more >>

My partner (Darkness) just plucked it out and threw it right down. We climbed this route New Year's Eve day, and it was windy snowy and cold. Needless to say, there was no one around, so it could be done safely. I just don't understand how people were commenting on this chockstone for 11 years. Either way, it's gone now. So, the comments to come will be about the big flake in the nook that will flex when you put gear in it...as of now, ... more >>

Location: CO : Boulder : Flatirons : South : The Maiden : East Ridge (5.10) By: Turnbuckle When: Aug 16, 2011 | view comment >> | Comments: Thought this climb was amazing, had a blast, the rap down was by far the coolest rap I have done yet. I was glad that my partner led the harder pitches, but I thought every pich happened to be a lot of fun. Before rapping down the second rap, we set up a top rope and climbed what we were told was an 11. I thought it was a lot of fun. I was wondering if anyone else has done that and what their thoughts were on it.

Location: CO : Alpine Rock : Maroon Bells : Maroon Ridge (5.4) By: Turnbuckle When: Aug 7, 2011 | view comment >> | Comments: A buddy of mine did the Bells traverse last weekend. We both thought that the climbing was easy, but the loose rock was sketchy to say the least. On the ascent of Maroon Peak, we had some hikers above us send rocks flying past us, and the traverse was much worse and not the easiest to navigate. We did not rope up, but we were both very happy to approach shoes on for the traverse. I have never been so happy to have a helmet on in my life. After starting the traverse, we heard rocks sliding all ar... more >>
