I grew up in a sailing town just north of Boston so pretty much anything that "gets me wet" including mixology!. As a kid dropping out of dinghy racing I needed something to stimulate me. So I started climbing at about age 14. I learned to climb on and around the sea boulders and crags of North shore Boston/ Cape Anne area. When I was barely 17 I dropped out of high school and moved to N.Conway N.H by the end of the summer (78') I was leading solid 5.9 and decided it was time for my first pilgrimage. fall 78' was my first season in the "Valley"
I subsequently had my 18, 19, 20, and 21st birthdays in Camp4. I climbed for a lifestyle until I was about 23. Then I moved to Hawai'i where I lived (and did not climb at all) for the better part of 20 years.
Just this past spring (07') I got back into climbing. I now live in the Vegas area so I guess I have to live with sandstone as a primary medium. I spent a week on the granite of Squamish this past August and it was like "old home week" being able to stick my hands into a quality, granite crack again.
Even though I have climbed in the Gunks, Eldorado, Moab, Red Rocks and many other non granite areas...
As my good friend has been telling me for 30 yrs.
