Comments: Hmmmm, a toprope is not considered an FA? I beg to differ. A no hangs, tr ascent is an FA, if only a tr FA. A no hangs tr ascent still requires spotting the potential route and giving it a go, putting together the moves, pulling off loose holds, etc. Most retro-bolted sport leads are only done after the line has been toproped, making the first sport lead a headpoint at best. This is not to say that leading while clipping bolts from the ground up is not an accomplishment. Leading ground up is ob... more >>

Comments: Hi Joshua,
The issue you describe is very common at The Wood. About four years ago I donated dozens of hangers to a local Eagle Scout, who worked with the park to replace many of the missing bolts and hangers at Grocery Store Wall as part of his Eagle Scout project. Fixed protection (i.e. bolts) has historically fallen victim to vandals and thieves, most notably at, but not limited to, Grocery Store Walls. This particular crag attracts more climbers than any cliff in the area. The short approac... more >>

Comments: I haven't been up there for several years now. I used to climb at Alderfers/Three Sisters very regularly when I lived in Morrison. I'm glad the place is finally getting the attention and appreciation I've always thought it deserved.

Comments: With the recent snow earlier this week and now warmer temperatures, a good sized puddle has formed under the great north face of this route. I am considering a deep water solo attempt tomorrow, but I will want the well deserved glory that I'd be entitled to with such an audacious ascent. Attention editors of Climbing and Rock & Ice: Send a film crew out to the canyon tomorrow to photograph my greatness and you will be guaranteed to increase the circulation of your publications. Comments: When I was in The Valley last August, I went up to Glacier Point with the express purpose of having my wife shoot a picture of me doing a handstand on this feature. When I got to the overlook there were two hundred people there and about half a dozen rangers, not to mention a railing where it was posted that you were not permitted outside its perimeter. I guess you have to get up pretty early in the morning for that one.
