Comments: Someone (not me) added an unnecessary bolt 2 feet below the previous 4th bolt. Be careful not to Z-clip.

Comments: These climbs should be renamed Dumb and Dummer based on what the anchors were set in. I wonder if the FA party had any understanding of physics at all.

Comments: No big surprise that Jeffco rangers are the problem here. There are an awful lot of them & they don't have much real work to do, like building trails or anything useful like that. Fortunately, it's relatively easy to get around the tyro at this particular location. Hopefully they won't mess with anything else in the canyon. Sonic Youth is well worth the walk around.

Comments: Since I only did the first 2 pitches I can't comment on the quality or rating overall. The first 2 pitches seemed OK in the 5.10 range through. The sideways TV between bolts #1 & #2 needs to take a trip to the talus though.

Comments: Good route, but probably a bit harder than 11a. The crux was made especially challenging by the somewhat slippery nature of the rock making it hard to just pull real hard to get through. Well bolted.

Comments: Cool, thanks for the info. It'll probably have to wait til next year as I'm headed to Peru soon. I'd like to get up there before the whole Obelisk pillar falls off, which it's slowly in the process of doing.

Comments: This sounds similar to a route that I did several years ago, at least the nice thin crack part. I sent a topo to Rossiter, so it may show up in his next book. The whole face is so indistinct it's hard to tell where you really are though.

Comments: I was wondering if anyone knows how clean the thin crack section of Ariana was. I tried to look over while doing Pervertical & it looked kind of grassy, but it's hard to see more than a few feet over very well.

Comments: There are three routes that I was aware of, Chickenshit, etc (takes the left side of the roof with kind of a shoulder wrenching move), Trustafarian Panhandler (up the center of the roof, rails to a burly lip move), and Surrounded by Reality (more to the right with the crux actually lower about half way to the roof). There is, or was more room for routes in this area, including second pitches as well.

Location: CO : Golden : Clear Creek Canyon : Little Eiger : Persistent Vegetative State (5.10b)
By: Tod Anderson When: Jul 13, 2005

Comments: It is likely that a stray anchor in that area was placed by me a long time ago. I accessed the routes on the previously right side of the Little Eiger by soloing along the ledge system, setting an upper anchor, and then rapping and setting lower anchors for the routes. At the time I rapped into that area, there was no sign of previous activity. Ultimately, my interest in the Little Eiger did not end due to lack of climbable rock but an interest in steeper rock elsewhere and the problem of cle... more >>

Comments: This climb as well as many others in this area were essentially excavated from layers of decomposed and loose rock. Although that may be hard to believe when doing 10 Digit Dialing and others now this would NOT have been anywhere near reasonable to lead on gear in its original state.

Comments: Beware that much of the land along Highway 72 is privately owned although it may appear to be uninhabited. There is a patchwork of Open Space in some area that can best be discerned from Jeffco Open Space's web site.

Comments: This climb is located to the right of Kor Van Tongren. I was able to discern the line while climbing on Flattop this summer. The dihedral was more obvious from across the way.

Comments: Mark,

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure when I'll get up there as I'm just getting back to Devil's Head after a couple of months doing other stuff. I'm a big fan of longer routes & these seem to fit the bill in that regard. Have you been out to Lime Creek lately?

Comments: How does the rock quality at Ra compare to Goat Rock? I climbed on something many years ago along a huge moving scree slope probably before any routes were in.

Comments: Good work, guys. It's a lot of work to put up routes in Clear Creek, mostly cleaning the rock. I look forward to stepping over there & checking the routes out. It'll be nice to get on something that I didn't have to spend hours of scrubbing to do....

Comments: How can a tyrolean that installed high enogh to actually be usable to cross the stream be a hazard to kayakers? Are they standing on their kayaks & doing gymnastics? Steel cables seem to be the only answer to this problem. They're less visible & harder to cut with a knife. If it is kayakers, maybe we should do some more adventure kayak trundling from river wall.

Comments: Unless all the bolts have been replaced on this climb they should be considered suspect. One pulled on me a few years back and it appeared that the bolt was never tightened. I doubt the first ascentionist knew what they were doing.

Comments: The new guidebook to Devil's Head is now complete and available in stores. There are over 200 routes listed. The book contains many new topos and pictures as well as all of the details on how to find the new climbs. So far it's available at The Bent Gate, Mountain Sports, Mountain Miser, & Neptunes. Hope to see you up there this summer.
