Comments: Nice pic. I believe this is a "prairie rattlesnake" (Crotalus viridis) not a western diamondback.

Comments: I'm the one who actually got close enough to snap the photo for Eckhard. I happen to be a professional herpetologist & don't advocate getting that close to them for anyone else. It is not a mojave green. It is a very colorful common Colorado prairie rattlesnakes (Crotalus viridis viridis for the geeks out there). It was far enough away from the trail that I don't think it is an issue. It was at the upper base of Whale's Tail well below the trail to the bulge wall area. Plus, it ma... more >>

"With perhaps 1000's of interested people and only 350 spots, it's pretty poor form to get on here and whine and blame others for not getting a ticket for whatever reason."

honestly i am not heartbroken not to get tix. would have been cool, but not a huge deal. i am disappointed in the general principal of the matter. i just think with knowing how many people are really excited about this it is pretty poor form to start selling (and sell out!) before the advertised time tickets are... more >>

Comments: A BIG THUMBS DOWN (OR FINGER UP) TO THE AAC!!! hopefully they support better climbing ethics than the lack of them they have shown their supporters and club members today.

Comments: Went to Jaws today. At 9:30 it was soft and wet already and there are 2 HUGE horizontal cracks going almost the entire width of the climb, 1 at the top of the cave and 1 around 15' from the ground. Ice was falling off too. I would steer clear and not be surprised if it finally fell this weekend.

Comments: Excellent picture. The snake is the midget-faded rattlesnake (Crotalus concolor for us herp dorks). They are quite "spunky" and will not hesitate to stand their ground. You did the smart thing by getting out of his way rather than try to move him. This species has a very potent venom!

Comments: Attempted on Saturday 4/22 and found these conditions. Lamb's Slide was great, didn't need crampons but firm enough to be secure--went very quickly. Broadway was a different story, as the snow was somewhat unconsolidated, but not too bad. On Kiener's chimney, there was NO ice, only sugar snow, again unconsolidated. After 150' off Broadway, decided to bail due to questionable snow above.
