Comments: Did Notch Couloir today (8/21/05) and highly recommend it to anyone looking to get the ice jones back in their system! Good solid water ice in the upper couloir. Lamb Slide hard snow, Broadway totally clear and upper gully FAT 60 ish degree easy ice. Scramble up and right (5.2 ish rock) to the Notch. I descended by way of the Loft.

Have fun

Comments: Great climb, but hardly Vedauwoo 5.11 Try Maxi Lash or B-G Crack and then call this 5.11a without laughing.

Comments: Just took a ride on "Hard To Believe" out at Blair on Moby Dick! High quality and BRUTAL as HELL. Recently TRIED "Crack off Fear" at Lumpy. Timed to except the fact that 10d/11a is the catch all hard grade for off width. After these experiences, 11a sounds about right for Maxilash. Sorry about the whining!

Comments: What an OUTSTANDING route!! It's hard to find a climb at this level that is so continuously interesting pitch after pitch. I just kept wondering when it was going to ease off. Really consistently fun top to bottom with good pro. I climbed a harder dihedral to the right for our first pitch and then traversed over when I saw all of the slings. It felt hard! Anyone know what it is? We climbed the last pitch in the snow on June 27th! Crazy

Comments: Tape would have made it easier, but it always does. I peeled of quite a bit of flaky crap trying to get a decent stem. It seemed a little dirty. First moves off the ground wake you up and the pull into the corner were the best on the route. Don't TR off of the anchors the way they are (extend them) or your rope gets horrible (horriable?)twists going. HB offsets are THE gear for the route!

Comments: Alpine climbers ALERT: Don't put the tools away just yet! Ice is dripping from everything and there will be more if current conditions persist. Get up to Cathedral Wall area and get creative. Was up in Womb with a View on Saturday 4/24 with Greg Sievers and found good ice and potential routes all over the place. Crypt is still big, as well as a long stairstep route just west of it. Might be a few weeks until North facing routes catch up but there is plenty of new potential on the south faci... more >>

Comments: Grace Falls has several climbable lines. Pretty steep WI4ish Hot Doggies is good size but not touching down. Guide's Wall was empty.. Long slog for a decent day.

Comments: Has any one else noticed that holds are "falling" off of some of the problems at the Torture Chamber? On the roof by the tree, Borglum's Bulge and the TT traverse key holds are no longer there. All of this has occurred since June or so of 2003. I suspect some self righteous asshole who believes they have a certain special right to the rock at horsetooth is to blame and they are taking it out on easier problems. This same thing was happening at the Tropics shortly before it was closed. Whoeve... more >>

Comments: After seeing this climb from across the valley on the Holdout, I had to do it. I am COVERED with sctraches and bruises but did manage to send. I wore out a right shoe and was dry heaving at the top. The last 30 feet are sinker hands, but you are so wasted it feels like you are climbing for your life! A head/hand stack is the ticket for a decent rest between cruxes. It is the most physical climb I have ever done and am still wasted two days later. If this 11.a I quit!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments: Definitely tape up before you get on! I took two scary falls and also sliced the backs of both hands as a result. Sharp rock. I wonder if climbs w_ll ever get WT and WOT grades in the future? :) Killer climb though. Inspired by Jeff Acheys book "Climb" to give it a try. First lead was with hammer and pitons according to it.

Comments: MattI respect your ethics in climbing this route! I think that the future of hard climbing will be a return to the idea that we should climb the rock as it is offered to us and change ourselves instead of the rock in the process! So many lines get bolted on the front range that really could be "safely" protected using gear.Lead the way!

Kudos!

Comments: I would rate this as one of the BEST cracks anywhere! So much fun! Don't place a cam at the lip of the last roof! It will catch your rope and lock you down at a most inconvenient spot. (11- ???? Did Jimmy Dunn rate this thing???)

Comments: While any one move on the TT Traverse may be V1, I would be surprised if the concensus grade of the entire traverse would be. I'm no Chris Sharma, but have done some pretty hard problems and climbs and this traverse is PUMPY! In the old Horan Front Range Bouldering guide it gets B1. Its gotta be 50 moves or so. What do ya think folks. (I'm opening myself up for some serious slander here huh?)

Comments: Hidden Falls is still in great but is REALLY hooked out. Still had a great time. We did the thin dihedral just to the right of the flow. (It goes up to a ledge just below a steep offwidth.) Then traversed right on the ledge for about thirty feet right. Another steep, short rock pitch to the top. Don't know anything about it but it was killer. A little bit of ice at the base of the second pitch made it a legit mixed route. If anyone has done this or knows a rating let me know. tomjensen3... more >>

Comments: Jeff Slauter's route "Ninja Ladder" (14a?) is still awaiting a second ascent. It's just past Drake as you head up canyon on a blank wall just above the road on the right. Any takers?

Comments: On 2/16 we hiked in to Notchtop are and scoped things out. Hot Doggies is big as is the flow to the right. Grace Falls is narrow and thin. We didnt feel it was worth the extra hike up. Guides Wall and Odessa Wall have some ice that could make for exciting leads.

Comments: Nathanial, the ice above Free Strike Zone is basically nonexisent as of 2/9/03, but who needs ice to mixed climb anymore! The whole Loch is not worth the hike in. Dry crappy beat out and thin.
