Comments: As of last week there is a nest of baby swifts in the big jug hole half way up. May be best to avoid this one for a bit until they're all moved out.

Comments: If memory serves, it's the left variation as posted. You're just crushing these days? Or maybe something broke?

...or both?!

Don't remember much about it unfortunately, maybe a punchy crux down low?

Comments: Apt name for the route... there's a wasp nest in one of the huge roof jugs. Avoidable hold, but they're still not too welcoming as you go past.

Comments: "Either way, go climb on them. Be psyched, and don't forget we're just talking about rocks."

Total agreement.

Comments: Thanks, Richard! I'll add Alan in as the FA. I should have known it was one of you guys. Did you also do the route next door "Hip at the Lip"? I can't figure out where one would start up it.

Comments: Interesting, I thought Black and Tan to be opposite from Public Solitude in almost every way. This was cruxy on tiny holds with good rests on non-vertical slabbing while Public was a pumpy sprint on big slopers from bottom to top. Just goes to show how perception varies, I suppose. Agreed that this one was interesting though. I don't think I've done a move like it before.

Darren - as for its neighbor, I thought this was a touch harder than the first pitch of Double Stout solely because linking... more >>

Comments: Haha. Though it might actually make more sense for me to change given my last name doesn't even have a Z in it? That or we could have a highlanderesque showdown (there can only be one) ...

Comments: Might want a stick clip for this one. That or climb Muscle Beach and equip this on the way down. Pretty high first bolt with some non-trivial climbing to reach it.

Comments: That dead thing (we thought it was a mouse) was still in there when we climbed this in about 2011! I laughed when I saw mention of it from 2008. Pretty nasty route as Chris illustrates.

Comments: Cool boulder problem standing up to that "hold". Rock is a little flakey in spots but good stone where you need it. Thanks for throwing hangers back on this one, Derek, and good work on getting it!

Comments: It seemed like a big right hand bump from and to sidepulls or a lock off on the one finger crimp (that Joshua mentions) with the left hand? Thoughts anyone? Either way it felt unpleasant IMO. The rock is still crumbling in places on this one.

Comments: Curious where that broken hold was, anyone know? Whatever the case, this one seems the hardest on the wall in its current state. This one probably has the best rock of the hard routes at this end of Highlander.

Comments: I would give this route 5 stars if it let me. Also I agree the height dependency on the move to the manta ray at least with the stand up method. Maybe an all out lunge if you're shorter than 5'9"?

Comments: Thanks Doug! Funny about the extra bolts...I don't even own a hammer so I'll probably just do what you guys did and keep climbing. But maybe I can track one down somewhere. Depends on what the partners are feeling like while we're out there but I'll be sure to let you know how it goes if I get to try this thing. Sweet looking route.

ps. Is the name because you two are part of the hoofers club?
