Comments: I have never been here before. Are there any routes where I could easily set up a top rope? 5.9-5.11

Comments: I tried to find this area once, and gave up. These directions look better than what I remember so I'll probably try searching for this place again.

Comments: I was unable to find this area. After driving the 4.3 miles from the turn off, I didn't see any dirt roads uphill. I found one road uphill at about 4.6 miles that appeared to be a logging road. It had a sign 'No unauthorized vehicles', so I walked up the road for a few hundred yards, but didn't see any sign of boulders. I assume the 50m means 50 meters? Anyone have some directions that could help me out?

Comments: I tried this route in '09 and bailed midway up. Every time I went back to Milagrosa, I always noticed my bail QD was still there. I finally went back and got my draw back yesterday. It seems like this route deserves some more traffic than it gets.

The route can be done from the ground with a 70 m rope.

Comments: Its been years since I've been on this route, but I thought the route to the right of it had a lower first bolt. I thought the intent was that you start on that route, clip it's first bolt, then traverse left.

I thought both of those routes had fairly close bolts, and the natural line seemed to be to start both in the same place.

edit: I checked the comments on the route to the right, Makin' muffins, also has comments about a high first bolt, so maybe I can't remember very well.

Also, the l... more >>

Comments: The last two times I've done this route, I've had a 70m rope which works great for rapping down the front of Chimney rock. On the final summit blocks the chain anchor intended for rapping off the back can be used for rapping off the front all the way down to garden ledge. You need to have a full 70m rope, however (not a 70m where you've cut a few feet off the end). The final rap off garden ledge of course gets you right back to the start of the route; saving you the 45min. walk aroun... more >>

Comments: I showed up here in '99 and was unable to find a climbing partner, also some of the people (all non-climbers, so they probably didn't know what they were talking about) warned me about bad bolts here. At which point I went over to Phra Nang and climbed there the rest of my trip; and found a lot of people to climb with. I'm just wondering if things have changed? If I show up are there going to be potential climbing partners here?

Comments: I think I was told this is a Ben Burnham route, but the bolting style doesn't quite feel the same as the routes to the left. This one feels a little safer, not quite as PG-13 as those.

Comments: I guess the grade is entirely from the last moves? I got on this without knowing the grade. I struggled and hung going over the last bolt, and was thinking probably 5.9, and that I just didn't unlock the correct sequence at the end. Some of the 5.8/5.9 climbers in our group climbed the final moves without a problem. I guess my point is, someone that doesn't climb 10+ probably shouldn't be scared off by the rating.

Comments: We got to the chains at the base of Kingsnake and Hanging Judge by going up the far right corner, then traversing back left. From those chains it took a full 70m rope to do the route and lower back down. I had 3 sets of camalots from .5 to 3 and still ran out of gear. We first attempted in the evening, and I ended up lowering down from about 2/3's of the way up when I heard what sounded like many bats from inside the crack. I came back the next morning and was barely able to hear their squea... more >>

Comments: When I was stationed at Ft. Huachuca from '94 to '98 we used to drive over and top rope Sweet Rock. I didn't know the name of the rock back then, but did lead this now bolted route on gear. My memory is fading, but pretty sure we did other parts of the rock on gear also.

Comments: The longest fall I ever caught was on this route (the leader's top piece, or 2 pieces came out). Thankfully, it turned out to be a clean fall.

I remember looking up and seeing him start to come off, then looking down at my belay device, bracing for a fall. There was a split second where I was thinking "oh, I guess he didn't fall,"... then rope starts falling down around me...

Comments: there's a rusty knifeblade about half way up, 5ft left of the route. I thought about clipping into it :)
