Comments: brutal finger wrecking start. not the best warmup, but good route. can also be seepy in wet weather. start is really hard when wet.

Comments: first half is stiff for 11c grade in guidebook. prepare to crank in this section.

Comments: When I climbed this in the late '90s, the rock quality was pretty rough. I placed what looked like a good piece in the lower flake. Luckily I decided to back it up with another piece below it (maybe blue TCU or so). I started underclinging/laying back up the flake, and a chunk of the flake broke off in my hand. The top piece blew out a pretty good chunk of the flake. I was glad I placed the second piece, as the ground was really rough and I would have eaten a serious shit-burger.

Kinda curious ... more >>

Comments: i just flew over this area the other day, without knowing what it was. it looked pretty good, and definitely big, so i tried to find any sort of reference points, but the best thing i could find was an 'arrow' shaped salt flat.... jumped on google earth when i got home and after some trial and error i was able to figure out where it was.

it looks like it is off the south flank of toiyabe range peak (39d 04' 15" N, 117d 12' 50" W). just take 376 south a short ways from the megalopolis of king... more >>

Comments: fun route, would be fairly popular if it were at a busier wall.

Comments: this is kind of a cool little route - good chance to plug in some smaller pieces at an easy grade.

Comments: i remember this one being harder than it looks, and there is almost a series of plate like sections of the crack where gear might not be as good as it looks.

Comments: Ha ha, in Richard's defense, I have been up there quite a few times, and I don't think I have ever gone the same way twice. Some ways suck, and some are even worse!

Comments: really fun route. i wish there were a lot more like this one - fun fingers with good feet. allows you to get on a finger crack at a reasonable grade.

Comments: second pitch is also really good. IIRC off-fingers/thin hands to good hands and back down. upper headwall crack on the first pitch is definitely more strenuous than it looks, big hands with sometimes awkard feet. great route overall.

Comments: Great route, would be 4 stars if not for the manky start. Seemed pretty similar in difficulty to the other 12a's in the area, definitely not in the same league as The Gem.
