Comments: Wondering about the grade on this. Horst's book has it at 11c R, and it's on here at .10a. I don't think i agree with either. Definitely not R, great gear below the crux (wouldn't want it to blow), and no part of it felt .11c, but i also thought it was considerably harder than .10a. No matter the grade it's a great climb, highly recommended.

Comments: Gus was the picture snapper on this one. If you move to the right of the block beside the bolts you can get some great pictures. Kinda scary hanging out there but worth it.

Comments: No disagreement about the grade being soft but i'm sticking by my story that it's a rad route.

Comments: The hold underneath the roof broke on 12/15/12. Might be considerably harder than V8 now.

Comments: Yeah I went right at the third bold and thought it was a bit soft for .11c at the New. No matter the grade or how you do that third bolt this climb is mega fun. Blew my onsight with the anchors at eye level.

Comments: Agreed. This thing is so, so fun. Crux moving from the 5th bolt to the corner but the moves really aren't too tough, just pumpy.

Comments: Probably my favorite climb in two days at the Obed. The sloper crux down low is a fun little boulder problem and the jug fest roof is just good clean fun. Highly recommend this one.

Comments: Just a heads up, there's a mistake in the guide book where this route and the .12a beside it can easily be confused, although it won't take long to realize you're not on a .10a.

Comments: I didn't have any issues with drag, but i do agree the last couple bolts don't add anything to the route. Fun climbing up the arete for sure.

Comments: I agree with John on this one. The view from the top was spectacular but not all that different from the view above Spawn and Shadowhawk, both of which i thought had better climbing.

Comments: Only gets 2 stars in the book but was one of my favorite climbs at South Clear. Fun foot work and long throws through the roofs.

Location: WV : Seneca Rocks : South Peak - East Face : Upper Broadway : Pollux (5.10a) By: Seth Derr When: Aug 27, 2012 | view comment >> |
Comments: Great pitch. The only thing keeping it from classic status in my opinion is the length, or lack thereof. For me the crux was getting into and then out of the pod at about 15 feet.

Location: WV : Seneca Rocks : South End : Simple J Malarky (5.7) By: Seth Derr When: Aug 27, 2012 | view comment >> |
Comments: I thought this one was pretty great. I haven't done Ecstasy so I can't compare the two, but this has three pitches of varied climbing and great exposure. Climbed it on a rainy day when not much else was dry, and i'd gladly do it again.

Comments: In the guide it mentions some fantastic 5.7 laybacks if you go off route a bit. Highly recommend this variation as it's some of the best climbing on the route. Otherwise i felt it was so-so. Lots of walking across ledges interspersed with short sections of cool climbing.

Comments: What an adventure. Long approach, no one else in the canyon, really felt alone on this one and loved every minute of it. Well... almost every minute. The wind up high provoked a very serious conversation between me and rock climbing, but it all worked out in the end. Highly recommend this for the total experience. Amazing.

Comments: A key crimp broke near the top of this thing in Mid-January. No definitive word on whether or not it made it harder, but it almost certainly made this already scary problem even scarier.
