Comments: Every one do your part. Even a copy-and-pasted argument can have a great effect when it numbers in the thousands. Many of us (including myself) have never climbed at these areas, but the decisions made set precedents and ultimately shape future policy in areas more near and dear to our hearts.

Comments: Wow, didn't read the previous posts. Learned from a Tahoe friend the other day that Doug had died. Never had a chance to meet him, but the magnitude of his ability and nerve has always struck a cord with me. Almost impossible to believe that one of the, if not the best big-mountain-skiers in the world perished in 'his' environment. His contribution to the sport will never be taken for granted. Comments: It certainly is enticing to have the prospect of grabbing an f.a. in your head, and I also agree with drunkenmaster, it is always good to know the history (even "current events") of a climbing area you frequent before claiming your ascent. I have been holding my tongue for 3 years now (even though I know of only one other person to send it) after a possible f.a. up in Tahoe because I have credible information that a few of the stone-masters from Yosemite may have dabbled in that area many years... more >>

Comments: Went here early January, some nifty problems on holds that require, um, discretion? The words 'adventure bouldering' came to mind. All in all though, really cool looking group of rocks. One problem that sticks in my mind started on really bad low holds to a good little ledge then continued up through some neat moves out the roof and up and over (it was located on the backside as I approached from the E?). Did some other fun problems. Where's the bovine area?

Comments: Nothing is off-route outside huh...Don't tell that to Horsetooth Reservoir or England or anywhere else climbing is to be had 'outside' with limited resources. Besides, if you think it's on, and don't care about climbing it using the intended holds, use it, it's not our job to judge another person's climbng experience. Everything may be usable, but certainly, not everything is 'on'. Maybe it is ridiculous to say 'hey, that foot is off', but sometimes using and not using a hold makes a a climb ... more >>

Comments: HAHA. How the years teach us. Yeah, look for the chalk, that was there three years ago, don't worry, it's not like water runs down this chimney with gusto after and during every rain. 5.6 seems stout for this vertical sidewalk. Decent place to practice using retrievable/removable anchors for canyoneering when its wet or raining. Just hope that anchor pulls down when it should, otherwise, jump out the cave! Comments: I'm not trying to sandbag this by calling in 10d, but I onsighted this yesterday (Mar. 12, 2005) having no idea what the route was graded, and it didn't feel like an 11, even pulling the roof seemed hard 5.10, I'm putting my neck on the chopping block perhaps, but I'd have to say 10d. Nonetheless, sick route.

Comments: Yeah, I would have to say that 5.12c is a pretty far leap for this climb. It's hard for me to compare this climb to 'Bat out of Hell' at Cave Rock. I was surprised by the 5.11c recommendations, and I know it cannot be 12c because I cannot lead 12c, yet I pulled this one off. Not that any of this actually matters it's still one of the best climbs in the canyon.

Comments: Damn fun route. Very good beginner trad-lead in my opinion. don't be afraid to reach a bit higher and find much better holds. The more timid you are, the harder the route. Either way, fun-fun-fun.

Comments: The Wood is awesome. If it weren't for this place and a move to CO I never would have started climbing in the first place. And thank god for all this rain, the canyon is looking as good as ever. Go climb there and see what this awesome area is all about. I love it!

Comments: Not sure why the description on the main page of this area didn't help you, but this area is found by getting off I-70 at silverthorne, taking 6 up to keystone and instead of taking the right hand turn into the free lot/River Run area (Gondola Way i think) you continue and take your next right. You'll know you missed the right because the next right is a-basin, hehe, I haven't actually climbed at the area but used to hike up there last winter while waiting for snow working at keystone. Comments: I love this rock. For the opportunistic, park at the north entrance, hike to the dam, then up inner canyon trail, at night. Then climb this baby with a headlamp! Not that I would go into the park after 9:00 pm...but a guy told me it would be cool...Watch out for lurking predatorial animals.
