Personally, a bigger smile spread across my cheeks after doing this problem from the ground. Sometimes I, too, lose sight of the fact that climbing is a completely subjective activity. I still argue that this line isn't contrived, but that is my subjective opinion.

My reasoning; there is an extended crux (for me) starting from the sit start that isn't there if you start in the middle of the face. At several points in time, cursing the Perch, I swore that the start was very height dependent (being about 6'), but once your butt is off the ground and you grab the sidepull bloc, the fun truly begins. The proper route avoids the crack completely, using the two crimps on the face that are basically in line with each other (the lower one being much better than the higher). Move off of these crimps to the sidepulls located near the top of the lower face. Pull those feet up and commit for the bomber edge above.

So, JordAnnnnn, this isn't part of the Piano Boulders (City of Fort Collins property).

While the fall from the crux can be intimidating at best, with a big pad or two small ones and a conscious spotter, this problem shouldn't cause any bodily harm. While the R grade may have applied back before the landing was gardened, I don't think it is as applicable today.
