This is upper Glacier Gorge as seen from Arrowhead rather late in the day and late in the summer. The view is facing southeast and includes Longs Peak, Keyboard of the Winds, Pagoda Mountain and Spearhead. The East Ridge of Chiefs Head Peak climbs out of the frame to the right.

Photo of Roger Briggs (leading) and Pat Adams on pitch 3, the Sea of Joy, 1989. Neither one managed a perfect redpoint. Joyce and I worked this route many times to the same near miss. Kudos to Andy Donson who, as well as I know, made the FFA of the route (on sight I think).

Richard Rossiter starting the first pitch of the West Gully, 1977. Photo by Tim Hogan. The gear is novel: Galibier leather boots, hinged crampons, wool knickers, Dachstein mits, home-made sit harness and rucksack, oval carabiners on 1-inch webbing, Stubai solid ice screws, Forest Mjolner (ice hammer), Rooster Head axe (right hand), Ultimate climbing helmet, et cetera. This is not an actual climber of course. but a manikin at the Smithsonian.

Action shots are not so interesting when you are the only one on location, but It was a great place to be alone in the blizzard, 12/30.2007, 30 years after first climbing here with Ralph Baldwin and Tim Hogan, December, 1977.
