Comments: Fascinating. So whoever put this POS in was actually adding an aid bolt! And now it protects the third pitch crux for the free climbers.

Comments: The party dead center is actually on Lab Wall. The climber down and left from them is on VMCDD. There also appears to be a party getting on Benedictus. Busy day on the Big Wall!

Comments: Got on this thing today. We decided we most definitely didn't want to tangle with the Ghost Roof, based on Jeff's description. It's a very worthwhile climb to do just the first four. P2 is especially good, even classic. The arching crack that the climber is on in Jeff's photo was soaked at the bottom, so we did the lower crack on the far right of the photo. It's awesome and joins up with the upper crack after 30-40', just in time for the crux of the pitch. The short crux on P3 is balls hard and ... more >>

Comments: Clipping the chains from the huge undercling is a long reach for me at 6'1"; not sure if this will work for shorter folks... I guess they just do the heinous mantle facing a huge butt-first whipper?

Comments: Was at Sundown this June hanging out at the base of Eyeless when I heard a kerfuffle from up around Rough Boys - jangling gear, the unmistakeable thump of body on rock. This dude had taken a short fall on the pin on the first pitch and it pulled. He took a good whipper and got bounced around some but was totally fine. Afterward he showed us the pin, a bugaboo IIRC - it was all rusted and manky, had lost a lot of metal to corrosion. Excellent reminder about trusting pins in New England (i.e. don'... more >>

Comments: Check out the film Benedictus/Masterpiece by Jennifer Tennican. Great footage and interviews with Tom Callaghan et al.:

Comments: Nostalgia alert: this was my first climb and probably has been for many Boston climbers over the years. To my 13-year-old self, this wall seemed gigantic.

Comments: Best route in the East.
Would have been happier with two green aliens or the like for the second pitch instead of just the one.
Also, going right then up at the start of P5 looked very unlikely. Going straight up was very hard and reachy but only for a couple of moves until you reach a nice horizontal break.
