Looking down Cowboy Ridge in the Whistler Backcountry. If you look really closely, near the center of the shot, you can see some people skining up.

Backcountry skiing in Whistler. I think this is Cowboy Ridge we're ascending. The runs on Blackcomb are visible on the right in the background. To get here we got a backcountry pass (one ride up) for Whistler and then headed east over the Musical Bumps. Some of the Musical Bumps are now lift serviced rather than backcountry (as of 2006 or 2007), but Cowboy Ridge isn't, and it was great skiing.

The Capilano Suspension bridge in North Vancouver. A nice rest-day activity, but not cheap. The Lynn Creek suspension bridge is a nice free alternative.

The greenery hides it in this picture, but it's quite a deep canyon.

It may be a hike along the coast, but you get plenty of vertical on the West Coast Trail.

Classic west coast of Vancouver Island. This is just south of Sombrio beach on the Juan de Fuca trail, which is a shorter, less committing hike than the West Coast Trail, but in the same vicinity.

The eastbound ferry (Victoria to Vancouver), taken from the westbound ferry. They cross in Active Passage, so named because the tidal flow in the passage creates strong currents and whirlpools.
