Comments: If you follow the crack which goes straight up from the ground to the top (known as The Obvious Crack, 5.7 - different first half as Easy Street, same finish... really a better line overall) it makes for a decent lead. You'll need a big piece such as a 5" cam to protect the final moves. A 4" cam also works great for the bottom part.

Comments: I agree that the climbing isn't elegant, but I enjoy the grunting required to send this thing. And I think most would agree that it is tough for the rating. When I'm the first to contribute a route I generally just put the established (guidebook) rating.

Comments: With its bomber pro, moderate grade, and quality climbing, it makes for one of the best leads in the park. Bring a set of nuts for the numerous constrictions in the crack. Cams from .75" to 1" are also useful.

Comments: Great lead... bring #2 and #3 Camalots if you have them. The #3's are great higher up. Those two sizes alone will protect the second half of the climb.

Comments: I agree with Doug about the long webbing! Long webbing or other anchoring material is a boon for building anchors at Blue Mounds. Bring plenty if you want to make things easier on yourself or create multiple anchors.

Comments: I agree, it is a lot of fun to finish this climb by working right once at the big ledge, finishing on the massive block at the top. I also think this is necessary to earn the 5.8 rating. Also, the juggy roof can feel like 5.6 with the effective use of a drop-knee and the move feels great.

Comments: I climbed this without first consulting the guidebook because it looked fun, and had concluded a rating of 5.8. I was a little surprised to see that it was marked as a 7.
Anyway, ratings aside, the crux on this is pretty interesting and requires some creative body positions and maneuvering. It's a fun climb and worth doing in my opinion.

Comments: This is run out from the third bolt to the anchor. If you blow it up top you're going to take a big ride, atleast 20 feet. The crux is in this section.
