By: Paul Ivaska When: Jul 8, 2003 | view comment >> | Comments: WE climbed this route on 4th of July weekend. We had the entire Spanish Creek Valley to ourselves and beutiful weather. I would highly recommend bringing mosquito repellent, long sleeves, and pants for the approach. The mosquitos were absolutely brutal for aprox. the first two miles of the approach. If you cache gear at the base of the climb, be sure to put your gear in stuff sacks (doubled). Marmots tore up our climbing shoes!!! Enjoy.

Stubbies help, no pins were needed. Snow on Lamb's Slide was consolidated or had sections of loose powder. Wind slab conditions may exist in spots. First couple of pitches on the Smear look thin and desperate.

By: Paul Ivaska When: Oct 29, 2002 | view comment >> | Comments: Scouted out the North Face Route on Notchtop through binos on 10-28-02. The ice is in but looks pretty thin on the initial rock band. A cornice is forming up on the ridgeline above the route. Grace Falls are forming up, the Odessa Wall ice routes are not quite touching down yet and the Guide's wall is very thin.
