Comments: This can be made more difficult by climbing directly up the face and avoiding the crack feature for the first couple of bolts. Not sure which start is better, but the crux "battle" is unavoidable and quite fun. Clip the chains on the left.

Comments: I would also like to see a bolted anchor for this pitch. The tree belay is a difficult and potentially dangerous rope pull. Great pitch.

Comments: Take care at the belay station below the climb. There's a detached brick in the crack below and left of the anchors. Your left foot and this doomstone will be playing footsy. Excellent trundle candidate, but clear the road.

Comments: Has anyone who's done both this pitch and Big Baby at The Creek have an opinion comparing the two? Thanks.

Comments: The new guidebook lists this as 80 feet, but that is incorrect. A 50 meter rope will not make it down. Great route.

Come on man, that Bloom guidebook is the Bible for gear beta. I've never been sandbagged by it. Well....maybe once.

Comments: Ha, no kidding. We pretty much spilled the beta beans.
The draws were looking good, although the one DMM draw under the roof (bolt 5, I think) was getting a pretty solid notch. If I get back up there soon, I'll bring a draw to leave if it really needs it. If I switch it out, do you want it back? I think it was one of those sewn DMM guys.

Comments: Darren,
I think that the observation about height dependency is spot on. I am a tall guy with a wingspan of 6 foot, and the low crux (bolts 2-3) felt reasonable (V4ish) for me. I was working the route with someone who is considerably shorter, and she had a tougher time at this spot due to the fact that she had to use some terrible holds.
I wasn't trying to initiate any sort of grade debate, merely indicate that it might feel easier for some. You said it better than me with regards to the hei... more >>

Comments: This might turn out to be a candidate for one of those assinine "12D," "No, it's 12C," "No, it's 12C/D" arguments, but The Gauntlet is solid 5.12 on fantastic stone. Thanks a ton to Darren for bolting this and leaving draws up to encourage traffic. Highly recommended.

Comments: As well, you shouldn't need draws for 80 feet. Typically, it has fixed draws and leaver biners on the chains. Bring one, just in case.

Comments: This is a fantastic climb, and as has been stated numerous times before, well worth the hike. Just a point of clarification, though. I was expecting the bolts to be right above the final roof, while in fact they sit just west of the summit of the Pinnacle. It is no problem to rap off with a 60 meter rope, but don't expect to finish the climb and lower back to your belayer. You will need to bring your second to the summit before descending.
That said, this is a wonderful, continuous route wit... more >>

Comments: As for this idea of "abandoned property", wouldn't hangers be the same thing? If you needed a few for a route you were bolting, couldn't you just strip a few that were sitting around on a climb? using this logic, I don't see why not. Sarcastic, I realize. The real idea is that draws on a sport route aren't to be taken. You simply cannot argue that they are abandoned property, they are not bail biners. Like Greaser said, no grey area. Violent threats and calls to manhood aside, it's sad we... more >>

Comments: This is all sort of a waste of time, but, similar to a car wreck, fun to watch. Regardless, I wish the CU climbing team would come to me for editing before posting their stance. Mike, I know microbiology is far removed from creative writing, so let me correct the spelling, and then you can tell me how a little amoeba knocks boots. Let's go climbing. Pat

Comments: Chip, you are doing a fine job with your work on the page, thanks. I would agree with your ratings and stars given. Too much negativity and people downgrading routes/problems on this website.
