Comments: 4 pads, and this one is good.

I think v5/6 from stand. The crux revolves around your ability to match, and move off a sloper... if you know how to use slopers, and you have reasonable conditions (thank christ it's north facing) then I don't think its a v7 move. Climb in Squamish for a season then come back and try this! Not sandbagging, I think half the classics at box are sandbagged - Pressure Drop, Left to Roof, Chewbacca - but this is one of the few that I think is a bit soft. Anyway, my poi... more >>

Comments: We worked it with a big crew a few weeks ago. Awesome line for sure. It was end of the day so hard to be objectively critical of grade, but this thing is stout. I would guess its closer to being a solid v9, but need to get on it fresh to make any real judgement.

Comments: This corridor is at the top of Cake Walk. A direct way there from parking is to park by the Asylum, hike up to Mopboys, continue up slabs to summit then angle to right across some big hueco ponds til you see a slot with an orange cross painted above. Actually quite easy to find.

Comments: Can't wait to check it out, hopefully before road closes this season. Sorry didn't mean backcountry bouldering to be a slight - whenever Im out there it has a real backcountry feel to it, like you're a long way from anyone. but yeah its roadside, even if it is currently a pretty bumpy ride out there.

There's tons of moderates at the pond in that grade range. At the range too. Good to know there's another area for us mere mortals to climb at.

Comments: Sure, this beta comes from Rich Heisler and Fred Berman, who were on the scene from the early days of pond bouldering, as they tell me. We should talk to lance.

Id like names to reflect the first acentionist's wishes, esp. on a NM classic such as this. A lot of renaming has happened at ponderosa!

Comments: San Juan Road (lower part of FS269) looks like its closed for good now, it has vanished off the latest FS maps

fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUM...

So access to coral is by foot now - 1 mile hike in on a nice road. Access to range from north end of 269.

Comments: High clearance recommended if you're heading to satellite. After the September flooding, FS-10 is pretty rutted in parts, the whole way through to NM-4. Doubtful that the FS will re-grade this before winter.

Comments: Satellite is 4.5 miles up road from the pond. It isn't above the pond. Directly above the pond is the upper ridge, and on the other side of that is the coral. Where you put the GPS marker for Big Cat Canyon (aka Spider Canyon) is directly above the Satellite.

I am not sure anyone really cares too much about back-country ponderosa first ascents* but it's great to have them cleaned up and some beta for the less adventurous! Bear in mind that many adventure boulderers don't bother scrubbing or pul... more >>

Comments: No camping at las conchas right now. Without the restrictions, you'd be normally allowed to camp about a mile downstream, but not currently. Camping is open in jemez springs, unless you want undeveloped spots.

Comments: Cattle call is on private land, so the FS dont have anything to say about it. In fact, the flagging makes it very clear where the private/FS land boundary is.
