Comments: Accessing the southern routes from the Cascade Canyon Horse trail:

Climbers trail has a small cairn marking it, only visible when hiking uphill on horse trail. It requires a lot of bushwhacking to the smaller waterfall on the right. Short scramble to the right of this waterfall.

From the short scramble the trail is fairly easy to follow to the next water crossing (which goes from climbers right to left), where the current snow reaches. From this point there was little to no trail. In fact, the... more >>

Comments: It should be noted that you have to wade across the creek to get to the crag if you use the approach described here. A towel and Chacos are nice.

Comments: The Supertopo is great with one exception. There are two new bolts above the 2nd belay (start of P3) that are easy to see and have taken some people off route. The bolt shown on the topo that you want to use is actually quite difficult to see from the belay. Head left from the belay on to the slab watching above for the bolt.

Comments: I had to climb up and over and down at the piton to fit through the squeeze (6'1" but my chest stuck). My smaller partner was able to go directly through below the piton.

Comments: It would be great if someone who knows this route well would be willing to rewrite the page. The route description is very confusing and really describes two (or three?) routes. There also seems to be some misinformation in the description as well (for example the 5.9 pitch through the roof [super sweet by the way] is definitely shorter than 130 feet, my 70m rope was no where near half way when I used the described belays). A full topo and beta on the descent would be a nice touch.

Also, the ne... more >>

Comments: I was able to get a tri-cam in and a sling over one of the horns for the traverse in to the start of the climb, but I was using double ropes so drag was of no concern. I highly recommend getting something in to protect the start, because last year someone did fall off of this with only one cam in to the crack after the traverse/start and it came out. She survived, but there were lots of broken bones.

Comments: Went to climb one of my favorite 10a's after work today and found out the funnest part had been taken out of the climb by the anchor lowering! What a bummer. BJ: Could the hangers be re-added to the bolts above so that the option remains? I've never noticed the roof being the least bit unsafe - though I haven't investigated it at length.

Comments: I agree that a Camalot #5 is very nice to have on this route, especially if you have never climbed offwidth routes before. It came in handy in two or three places (depending if you traverse in to the chimney on the last pitch).

I also brought a couple #4's, which I believe were both used on P2.

And I had a standard rack of nuts but didn't use a single one because I took a triple set of cams from .5 to #3, plus a few small ones.

Comments: The pillar that forms the wider crack on the left of this climb is loosening. I noticed it wobbling as I manteled on top of it at the end of the splitters.

Comments: Had some trouble with the vague directions for this area last weekend. So I'd like to add some more detailed directions:

From Hoosier Pass south of Breckenridge on Highway 9, head south to County Road 4. This is a dirt road on your right, located where Hwy 9 becomes less steep and windy. If you get to Alma, you've gone too far.

Stay on the right or East side of the flat valley floor (no turns) until you see the dam for Montgomery Reservoir ahead. Just before you reach the dam you will take a r... more >>
