Comments: Hey Shank! I have stumbled onto these lines and have a rough map of the area where you should be looking here:

maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=218129089841388804320.00049c6b3>>>

basically you just hike to the lowest rock formations at the playground and you will see the bolted routes facing west.

Comments: This is such a great area. Quality rock, beautiful location and some super asthetic routes. Cannot wait to get back up there to work on a few of the routes on the North Face.

Comments: Good warm up route for the other harder routes. Like the other comment said, an interesting few thought provoking moves following the first bolt.

Comments: I am headed up here in a few months and was wondering if there are any topos on this area?

Comments: I think this is one of the best climbs at the crag. It is long, very technical, well protected and super fun.

Comments: I wonder if Edwards or Banks would be able to add to the discussion for this problem.

Comments: I was fortunate enough to climb this route the only time I ever visited Joshua Tree with Mike Reardon feeding me pounds and pounds of Beta. A good man, great memory and excellent 5.11 climb.

Comments: Exciting route. extremely height dependent but a few fun moves leads to an unprotected slab. I would love to climb this in it's entirety but it needs two more hangers plus anchors.

Comments: Difficult moves at the roof. Does anybody know if a handhold is missing on this or not? Really balancy and fun but did not feel 11a. Not the best route at this crag.

Comments: Toxic Socks, Hazardous Waste and Chemical warfare were all in good shape. From the last bolts to the anchors on this wall, the climbing is relatively easy, 5.5 maybe a bit harder; However, it is also very chossy rock so watch your step. There is nothing to really be too concerned about as the climbing at that point is more like scrambling, but one loose piece and you could be hurting.

On another note, what is the rule of thumb for putting up a few chains on the anchors at this crag?

Comments: I got lost headed out to The Playground on my first visit this weekend and ended up finding a wall with about 6 or more bolted sport routes on it ranging from probably 5.8 to 5.12+ that I think may have been this area. If this is the same area, the climbs seemed to be ok but some of the corners were a bit chossy. We lead a few of them and did not have any problems. However, my friend climbed the one that felt like a 5.8 and pulled a 30 lb block off the wall.

Could use a bit more traffic but a... more >>

Comments: I led this over the weekend and enjoyed the climb. It was a nice surprise to see how protected the route was. It has about 5-6 bolts to the anchors at the top of The Rapture and has a nice crux at a roof.

I would rate this a solid 5.8+ although it is a bit more scary to climb than The Rapture.

Comments: One thing that helped my partner and I on this route was clipping the first bolt of the route with a long sling while on rappel and then clipping the rope into that sling from the belay ledge (we also used this sling as a secure point for the belayer to clip into as well.

The problem I wanted to avoid was that if you were to climb up to clip the first bolt, you will risk falling 20 feet down to the base of the crag below the ledge where the belayer is and the climb starts. After clipping the s... more >>

Comments: Just climbed here this weekend. Found out that the route was called rapture after climbing there and ironically it was May 21.

All these routes are very fun and a great spot for beginning leaders. However, safety is critical on this rock due to the exposure at the base and although there is room for a few people, I cannot imagine being on the ledge with more than my partner.
