Your one-and-only good sit start hold for this problem. Careful of the wasps that like to hang out in it from time to time.

Comments: Last week, I paid the big boulder a visit for the first time in several months. It was good to be back, except for the: heaps of trash around and on top of the rock, tick marks on every kind of hold imaginable, and colored chalk marking some of the best problems like they were goddamn gym routes.

As a result, I am strongly considering removing the routes I added to this page in the hopes that it will deter this vandalism and further embarrassment to the rest of us. I'm pretty ashamed, actually... more >>

Comments: The Minnesota River Valley Wildlife Refuge continues to advise against entering preserve lands during this high-water flood period. Honestly, it could be a couple of weeks until the granite boulder is safely reachable and the sandstone climbing will be questionable this Fall. Just a heads up. fws.gov/midwest/minnesotavalle...

Comments: This old swamp has some of the coolest geology in the state, even though none of the climbs are very tall. The horizontal roof sections are sometimes covered in patina making for bomber holds. It's the vertical portions of the sandstone that feel soft and sometimes break in certain places. Avoid any damp/wet holds. Funny... the rock on the island is sandstone too but much much better quality.
