Comments: It appears you could approach Squaw Rock, et al, from the Skull Hollow Campground up Forest Road 5720, and make for a much shorter approach. Has anyone attempted this? It would deposit you near the canal and save the hike from the main area.

Comments: Sam, yes there is a route left of the Heretic, but I was referring to the fact that there are 3 very closely spaced routes fight in the B&C area, and of these 3 routes, The Heretic is the left-most route. Thanks for the FA update.

Comments: After working this route and red pointing it and climbing many of the other hard routes at the City, I think an upgrade to 13c is appropriate for Gigantor. It has a very thin, technical crux at the very top of the route with no good rest (assuming you stay on the face and don't "cheat" over to the arete). It requires a rare combination of technical precision, endurance and mental focus. This style of climbing is becoming a lost art form, but allows you to climb the most magnificent features.

Comments: This is an awesome crag! All the routes are great, and it's a nice hangout, with some of the coolest boulders I've seen at the City.

Comments: This route seemed very solid to me at 13b (I didn't RP it, just worked it bolt-to-bolt). The moves between the chipped holds seemed reachy to me, but this style of climbing tends to have moves that feel vicious when working them, then come together fairly quickly on RP.

Comments: I just wanted to say that this is an awesome little crag with a very misleading name. Thanks to all that had a hand in developing and maintaining it!

I'm baffled that it's not included in the Lambert guide...it must be because this crag contradicts his thesis that NC should be preserved as a museum for "ground up traditional ethics".

Comments: The rating of this route with a split grade must be some kind of inside joke. Maybe it's easier for tall folks, or maybe people are grabbing the chains and skipping the dyno, but I found the last move to be plenty adequate for a 12c rating. I climbed the 5.13 extension and still believe the hardest move on that route was the dyno before the first anchor.

Great route nevertheless, and a great crag.

Comments: Two very sharp, small crimps st the start (that might be avoided with a big reach), otherwise no too sharp. A good route, but best in the high country?? Not even the best on the wall IMO.

Comments: SPOILER ALERT: Holds vanish as you pull the final roof, so be ready to improvise. I had to make a few desperate lunges to the right after clearing the lip.

Comments: I think this is 13a, but if we call it 12d, it's consistent with the general old school/sand-bagged nature of the Gym.

The Gym triple crown is to do The Example, Deeper Shade, and My Generation in a day. It probably made more sense BITD when there weren't a many hard routes at Shelf.

Comments: A good climb with very contrasting sections. The bottom crux is a steep as it gets at Shelf while the top climbs perfect grey stone up a slab. Some choss down low and a no hands rest cost this route one star.

Comments: This route is superb. Easily one of the more athletic routes at Shelf on mostly perfect rock. If typical Shelf climbing turns you off, try this route.
