Comments: This is a nice route, but gear placements down low can be tough in the shallow crack.

Comments: We did the 2nd pitch that's right off the belay ledge of Hollow Flake. The pitch is at least 5.10c. Very nice pitch, 8-10 bolts, plus 2 for the anchors (can't remember). Very deceiving route, looks much easier from the belay ledge. But all the bolts are in the right spots.

Comments: Climbed this route at least 10 times, and I fell on the 2nd pitch about 25 or 30 feet up from the belay. A Blue Alien caught my fall, it was very wet in the back part of the crack (I slipped out trying an arm bar). We started first thing in the morning, you might want to wait for it to dry out before trying this section. ;)

Comments: This is nice climb, but I missed some holds that would have made this a little easier.

Comments: This is a nice steep route, although short. I started (Top-Rope) on the ledge to the right, next time I'll try off the bottom of the arete. This route is right in front of a large boulder sitting on the trail. The anchor at the top is spread out, so be prepared to extend the anchor, normal draws are too short.

Comments: This was a great route. Very challenging roof crux. Upper section if pretty thin also. But, the holds are there.

Comments: This formation is called the Devil's Slide.
It's easy to walk off the top by heading west a little then down the edge of the formation. It will take you down to the road on the left side of the rock.

Comments: Climbed on Saturday, (5/13/05) - Lead the first pitch, climbing from the left side of the bulge. I think it's easier to start on the right side of the bulge. Had to rap off the first pitch due to weather. One 60 meter rope gets you to the ground. Rock is solid after the first bolt.
PS. anyone ever consider replacing the cable [that's] used to rap off with? I'd replace with chains ;)

Comments: Nice route. Good beginner lead. Bolts are spaced far apart though, so be prepared. The cold shuts at the anchor are rusting, but the bolts themselves looked fine.

Location: CO : Boulder : Flatirons : North : First Flatiron : Direct Route (5.6 R) By: Michael J Yarros When: May 29, 2005 | view comment >> |
Comments: This a great route. My first time climbing on the Flat Iron's. Route finding at times was a bit challenging. We used all cam's. Mostly smaller aliens but also used upto #4 (WC). There was no wind, just sun. A stellar day. We also went right instead of left on the big roof. Very do-able, also saw a "very" old piton in the roof. This made the traverse on the top longer though. Also we could have repelled off with one 60 meter rope. (we thought it took 2 to get off the top).

Location: CO : South Platte : Rampart Range Road : Parachute Rock By: Michael J Yarros When: Mar 5, 2005 | view comment >> |
Comments: There is still plenty of snow on Rampart Range road. The approach has plenty also.
Directions from Colorado Springs, take I-25 North to Monument, take Mount Herman road (FR320), after 13miles you'll be at Rampart Range Road (FR300), turn right. Go 8 miles, FR327 will be on your right.

Comments: I aid-soloed this route today. This is a great route. The rock quality is excellent. The most challenging part obviously the overhanging crack section. Also, Thanks to whoever put the Bolted Rap station(s) at the top of the first pitch.

Comments: I know that this is a hush-hush area, but for those who are interested, and haven't found the route yet. I've made a small topo map(from Topo Scout) of how to get to the base of the route. email me at myarros@hotmail.com and I'll send it to you. Keep in mind that just getting to the base of the route is a tough hike. This place isn't for those looking for routes right off the road :)

Comments: Very nice route. Finished the second pitch by going up the arete (instead of the V-slot) to the final short crack to the top. Like the above comments there is plenty of "gear" to clip into. First time climbing in Boulder Canyon, Great climb.
