We encountered this critter at the bottom of Good n' Plenty on 8/25/12. My non-climbing friend then scooped it up to move it away from the crag, but he dropped it off in the neighborhood of Payday. I turned around just in time to realize he didn't drop it off far enough. Oh, well, there's your PSA. I'm sure he's still around.

Comments: I've had a lengthy layoff and am getting back into the swing of things and Pay Day was the perfect route. I found that there were no great holds on any of the moves but the entire route was just so that all the holds were just enough to pull a move. Also, it felt an awful lot like you'd pull a move and then you would have an easy resting place, so it was consistently, work, rest, work, rest, work.

I believe it was 16 bolts in all and it ate up most of my 60 m rope, so be prepared. If you have a... more >>

Comments: Uh, anyone actually know how to get here? Outskirts of Reno doesn't cut it.

Comments: I can shed some light on the boulders along the ridge where the road cuts through the hill. It was called Pumpkin Patch and a big boulder- ah, man, it was wonderful- was called the Pumpkin. It's now someone's backyard. It had a lot of graffiti on it, easy walk-offs and soft, flat landings. Once construction started on the road around 8 years ago, it was all off limits. I'm stoked to see a new crop getting in there. I'm being cautious of mentioning where it is, because the folk who originally pos... more >>

Comments: Sweet pick. This would make an excellent "parting shot" for Climbing Mag. Or is it R & I?

Comments: Josh, thanks for taking initiative. We need more routes up anyway. Climbing is the least in the realm of intrusiveness and and environmental impact. Throwing bolts up, whether you like it or not, is not destructive. You do more environmental damage driving out to River Rock than you do drilling.

I moved to Reno from Arizona 10 years ago and there has never been enough routes around the city. River Rock is it and there is incredible potential in the surrounding foothills.

But right now it's LAM... more >>
