Comments: If this climb goes at 11+ I must have botched the crux sequence. Otherwise, I would downgrade Holy Moley to 11b/c (having just been on it a couple weeks ago).

Comments: Thanks Jbak. I did watch a climber on the route opt instead for down climbing to the top bolt on the overhanging face and get lowered off on a bail biner. He expressed, in colorful language, that it was unreasonably run out for a "Sport Route". Had I not seen him climb it, I would not think to carry gear either. The "Rock Climbing Arizona" guide indicates a bolt on the ledge. Once again, not all topos are accurate.

Comments: On the route "Change In Luck" (New Wave Wall) there looks to be about 20 feet of run out from the last bolt on the overhanging face to the last bolt of "Skid Mark" below the shared chains. Is there a bolt for "Change In Luck" above the ledge that I just can't find? It looks like a big whipper if you miss the clip on the highest bolt. Maybe that is why the route name is what it is. It looks like it can be protected with gear but the guidebooks indicate it is a sport route.

Comments: The dead manzanita tree was still able support my weight today and there are huge holds between the tree and the bolt(5.8?). A stick clip does not seem necessary at all. Great climb!

Comments: This comment and associated photographs contains some approach and climb details that I gathered before and during our Mt. Hayden climbing adventure on October 15, 2008. First however, I would like to thank Andrew and Jodie for providing a lot of the details which helped us to reach the summit.

Mount Hayden Approach:
As mentioned in the comments above, the approach to Mount Hayden requires long pants, long sleeve shirts, and leather gloves. The short thorny locust trees carpet the terrain f... more >>

Comments: There is another sport route that doesn't seem to be listed yet in the Mountain Project beta to the right of Ranger Danger that feels in the 5.7 range, though perhaps a bit more vertical than many of the 5.7s here. There are chains at the top.

Comments: Where is Memorial Daze? I am assuming Ann Bay Lee is the route to the left of Ranger Danger, going up inside of the "open book" formation?

Comments: Locate the start of the second pitch as follows: When standing at the big tree at the top of pitch 1, pitch 2 is the first bolt line to climber's right. A route was added to the cliff so the route description for locating the second pitch is out of date. Note too that the "Squeezing the Lemon II" topo (page 304) correctly shows the route to the right of the big tree.

Comments: There are 14 bolts on the second pitch. Two of the bolts are 1 foot apart which made me think that the first ascensionist thought one of those bolts was not bomber. I clipped both bolts and climbed on.
The second and third rappel stations are left of the route as you face the route (climbers left). I thought I would be able to rap the route itself but I found that a single 60 meter rope would not reach the anchors at the top of pitch 1 from the top of pitch 2. It was approximately 15 feet shor... more >>

Comments: Aleix,
They are local legends indeed. I’ll grant you that. But can they dance and sing like the climbers in the “Great Day for Climbing” video at this year’s Banff film festival? That thought scares me more than the guy in the red shirt. --Mark

Comments: When I was on this route last weekend, I noticed the right anchor hanger was loose. I attempted to tighten the nut with my wrench and discovered the bolt spins freely in the rock. Any bolt experts up for some community service?

Comments: I placed a number 0 TCU in the bottom side of the vertical crack at the crux on pitch 2 to avoid hitting the ledge if I pitched off. The TCU was about 2 feet above the bolt. Since I didn't fall, the placement went untested. --Mark
