Comments: Judging by last w/e, Toofast makes this trip (AND back up to the parking area) in ALL types of weather! She's in better shape than most dogs 1/2 her age.
She's also done a significant amount of trail work in the form of 'dog-cuts' for areas on the trail that are not so dog-friendly!

The new rappel will be 2 single line raps and will return you nicely to the base of the route instead of the current single double rope rap that takes you between the Climbology tower and the tower to the West.

Comments: Definitely a favorite spot for many dogs!
A year ago the water (level) was much higher, less stagnant and far less gross :( Sheesh, what happened to monsoon season this year? I heard it's going to be a wet winter...maybe that will help.

Comments: One of the earlier routes in LDE. Very sustained; seems more difficult each time I've been on it. The only route in LDE that doesn't top out (yet!).

Comments: And the wide crack is in the upper portion of the climb...so you don't get to unload the big stuff right away. Turned out #6 is not needed, can get by nicely with a #4.5 and #5.

Comments: There is a large boulder on climbers right as you top out this route. It's not teetering or anything, but we will move it further back on the summit or trundle it in the next week or so. I (and others) have carefully used it w/out issue, and it is easy to avoid as well. Just wanted to give a heads up.
Edit - 24 Nov 2009 - Geir and I determined the boulder was pretty secure and not easily displaced. Instead of trundling, we stabilized it; it's not going anywhere without the extensive e... more >>

Comments: The tallest formation on the left is the Shmotem Pole (amazing views from up there). Just right of the Shmotem Pole is Firstday Tower, with a nice 5.7 trad line.

Comments: The road out to Lower Devil's Canyon has been graded between the big hill and the Hackberry parking pullout and is now passable by passenger cars!!! Obviously, this will change with rain and use, therefore, use your own judgement when driving in. The last section of road between the Hackberry pullout and the road termination is improved but still requires high clearance 4wd.
