Comments: JD,

Not sure, but I think you are missing a major point in how Mountain Project functions.

What "gets me" is that MtnProject has been trying to help this situation by providing a means to develop a CONSENSUS GRADE, giving everyone a chance to "put in their two cents" on the rating; yet something like 55 people "ticked" this climb, but well less than a dozen rated it. Amazingly, even two folk who took the time to write a full comment about the grade don't appear to have put in a r... more >>

Comments: Good lead. Protects well with a keyhole nut placement at the crux. It oes require an experienced leader comfortable with finding stances and hanging in to suss out the gear on steep 5.9 terrain.

The overhang at the top is great fun whether you do it from the left using the horizontal crack or straight up through the overhang at the short vertical crack. Either way is well protected with abundant pro opportunities. Top out mantle move is a bit of challenge but you have a solid big cam at you... more >>

Comments: Regarding consensus grade, I'm guilty as charged. I think if I see that the grade is what I thought it was I don't enter a grade rating.

Comments: Robert, thanks for the historical perspective. Great stuff. Tarzan is a great climb. In addition, no matter how many times you have been up, it is always a very challenging lead.

Regarding "thought to be comparable" with reference to Han's Puss, Ken's Crack, and High E, I have led all three several times, and IMHO Tarzan is a grade and half harder than those climbs. I think it is a very solid 5.8 if not 5.8+. Perhaps not as hard as Bonnie's Roof or Double Crack but closer to them in grade ... more >>

Comments: I think in the interest of public safety you are obligated to go back up and remove that clearly unsafe bullshit. Of course sadly it would eliminate gang toproping opportunities on one of the most popular leads in the Gunks. But there are sacrifices to be made in the interest of the public good.
