Big Wall and Aid Climbing : Where to practice aid climb... : Post

May 9, 2013

This was taken in 1984 way above the Voices Wall. That year I would grab some of my Cross Country buddies and skip practice, drive up to Williamson and get as much climbing in before it got dark. I taught them how to do a hip belay and we went for it. Those were some fun times.

A picture of myself holding my fathers old piton hammer and my dad bouldering in the background. Picture was probably taken around 1978. Near the Leaning Pillar I believe.

This little meadow had some good rock around just out of the picture to the left. Plenty of other rock however to keep someone busy for a while.

Comments: I put this route up with help from Kelley Mayr probably around 1992. It was one of the last routes I did before getting into other pursuits.

Comments: I started to get back into climbing again this past year after a 10 year "break", having kids will do that I guess. I saw Absolute Zero last week while I was out there for the day and jumped on it and was pleasantly surprised to fire it first try, stuck a purple Totem Cam in the crack before the last bolt giving me a little extra courage. This was a good example of JT slab climbing.

Comments: Climbed it today using a Microtraxion for self belay while my 12 year old son practiced jugging right next to me. Great anchors and easy access. Fun climb.
