Comments: Sit start on the large crimp rail as shown in the picture, stem wide.... I remember using some boot rubber smear for the right foot and the left was on some shallow corner foot. Big move right and work feet over on smears to match on the juggy hold. Grades felt harder than listed here.... Not too much harder though.

Comments: This felt about the same difficulty as "RED." I couldn't pull it from the full sit.... 10 is probably right for the full sit from "Route 5", it only adds 2 or 3 moves. I disagree with the half a star though.... I thought it was really good.

Comments: There's now a sit start to this that starts with the left hand on the large block foot and right hand around the corner on the good down facing side pull. Goes at about V7/8 if you top out straight up and not traverse all the way to the V0.

Comments: Bandana... $1 Dynamic climbing rope... $150 Shirt... Who cares how much it cost? worthless as far as this guy's concerned. Seductively capturing the moment right before Sam gets a golden shower, simply because it's his favorite thing... Priceless.

Comments: Really like this climb... did it today... 6'5" wingspan enables the use of both cracks ;) Oh! and I dug the extra 20 ft. Just to max it out. Word.

Comments: +1 for no bolt. The route is great as is... For the us younger, bolder, yada yada yada... folks, the route offers an intriguing challenge to complete this route exactly as Kozak did. Let's cool this discussion a bit, the "best" thing about Durango's climbing culture is the environment of acceptance. My two cents.... What up Skeyeler???? What!?!

Location: CO : Colorado Springs : Old Stage Road : Saint Peter's Overlook : The Martyr (5.9) By: Kevin Hadfield When: Oct 16, 2009 | view comment >> |
Comments: Went to climb the Martyr today for the first time. Freakin' sweet route!!! I got confused at the top of the first pitch and set up an anchor in the obvious belay seat... not the ledge... probably shoulda went there. At this point we left the route and climbed straight up the east/northeast face via a fingercrack with a fixed nut. Anyone know anything about that pitch? I found it to be about 5.10+ for the first 20 ft. and then pretty mellow to the top maybe 5.9-. So rad!

Comments: Right above the belay for pitch 5 (spicy traverse) there is a bolt that kind on protects the traverse. Do NOT get confused... this is not useful and should be ignored. DO NOT clip the bolt and climb past it... The rock gets very scary and there are no bolts above this rogue unnatural protection. IGNORE THE BOLT ABOVE THE BELAY ON PITCH 5!
