Comments: Hey Benjamin, I reorganized the Hospital Rock area a bit to incorporate another user's suggestions. By moving routes to subpages, now Mountain Project's architecture allows other wall pages to be created, allowing GPS info for farther off walls to be added. Drop me a note if I can help further with this, or if I really wrecked anything.

Comments: Hey, I think I mistakenly moved this into the Central Sierra earlier, but after looking at some guidebooks I see it's probably considered an Eastside area since it's right on 395. Let me know if it fits somewhere else better organizationally!

Comments: Thanks Euan! I've been looking through California guidebooks for my first go 'round and trying to update these links. This one's done now, still looking for other old ones.

Comments: That's a weird spot. The slab at the start of the boulder problem is steeper than it looks in the photo - plus it often has a bit of dirt and gravel on top - and a pad might slide downhill at the wrong moment.

Comments: Cottrell calls this one 5.10+. Though 6' 0" tall, I tend to agree, since I can generally work out 5.10a to 5.10b routes more quickly than this one.

Comments: Hey Tom, that was the beta me and my friends used to climb there when I was still living in Pennsylvania! If you're down to have the same content here, I'm glad to help. I guess whomever gets the urge first can move things here, and if it ends up being me, I can transfer them to your ownership with my admin superpower (ha) so you'll still have credit (and advanced editing powers yourself) for your content when it's reproduced here.

Comments: Oh, the ravages of age on my memory... looks like I need to dig up that thread from rockclimbing.com and see what was actually posted there about the retrobolting.

[edit: looks like I confused that with a conversation about a different crag.]

Comments: Where the approach trail reaches the top of Bucks Bar, following the right hand trail at a junction. Keep to the highest elevation trail at any forks. Eventually it will wander down to Granite Cove, giving a scenic view of the sandy beach next to a big picturesque boulder on the final descent.

Comments: Logan, I tried adding V0 as an alternate grade, not sure the practical effect it will have on consensus grading here though. Can you go back and let me know if that unlocked your ability to vote in the "Hueco" scale?

This area is, IMHO, a fine example of the shortcomings of the V- scale. YDS gives fine accuracy in the single digit 5.s, whereas V- dismisses all of the gradation as "too easy to bother with." V0s and V-easy or V-basic grades get misapplied to many routes that aren't that hard, mak... more >>
