Comments: Brian, the only bolt that is easily clipped from the chimney is the first one and that's only if you start on the left side of the crack which is not the way I did it.

All the other bolts I would have had to leave the crack/chimney, climb over to the bolts, then go back into the chimney. I would call them inconvenient bolts for the chimney.

Seems maybe your need for convenience outweighed your need to climb the chimney proper. Just saying.

Also, what is the official acceptable distance... more >>

Comments: Left a draw on the 5th bolt and bailed to the ground as I was getting pelted by the bees. Definitely still active and aggressive. I wouldn't go for the booty draw unless it's quite cold and the bees are hunkered up in the hive. One draw isn't worth your life.

Comments: To reinforce Jbak's comment. We often go back to a climb we did years ago and after climbing it wonder why we only gave it two stars.
The new guide book will have a four star system.

Comments: Strong work Luke!

If it took you four hours to replace the bolts on this you need better power tools. 18 volt cut off wheels, and one of Geir's awesome bolt puller rigs would do you fine and save you time.

Comments: So sorry, Jon and Susan, that the guys that spent the time, effort and money to put in these routes didn't get around to posting all the info for your convenience.

I'm sure the next routes they take the time and spend the money to put in, for you to climb, they'll be more considerate of your needs.

I keep waiting to see the great, completely updated, and info filled guide to all the routes you two have put up for others to climb.

I mean they're sport routes fer Christ's sake, get on them cl... more >>

Comments: Maybe I need to go do this climb again, but I didn't think this climb lived up to all the hype either. It was one of those, "OK we did it, don't need to do it again", kind of climbs. 2 stars in a 4 star system max.

Comments: Jbak, but if it's in the canyon could one not walk up the canyon to get to it. That corner going up to the big roof is a pretty obvious feature. Hard for even a old fart like me to mistake.
Now my memory on how long it's taken me to hike to this cliff could be off by a long ways.

Comments: Crap was up there yesterday with a drill. I completely forgot about the goofy placement of these anchors. They should be lowered as the last bit of climbing to them is 5.3 and adds nothing to the route.

Comments: jbak isn't this the formation that's 20 or so minutes up the wash on the left after you go by some big honking boulders!!

Comments: Jbak, I've looked at this wall several times over the years. Seemed like too much work with big pry bars and brooms. Just the kind of wall you should throw yourself at!!! I look forward to getting on all your new routes.

Comments: Everyone should also be reminded that you should top rope off your own draws!!!

Only the last person up should lower on the biners that are part of the anchor.

Comments: We noticed all the new dirt last time we were there. Maybe we should move the anchors down so you don't have to slap the dirt ledge to get to the chains.

Comments: Murdock and I also looked at that crack. Why not just bolt it. No more dark side than the others.
I'm with Canada, I don't want to haul a rack out there for 35 feet of crack.

Comments: The top half of this little jewel is as good as it gets. Sure whish there was more of it. Too short and too easy at the start for three stars however.
I used the outside edge of the dihedral for hand holds and stemming until the very last bit. It's not 10d if you stay out of the dihedral.

One more on the dark side. You lads are shameless.

Comments: I thought this one had some fun moves. The 1st 3 bolts need to be reworked and straightened out a bit. I reached down and unclipped the second after I had clipped the 3rd.

You guys have gone more darkside than EFR and I.
Though hiking out in the mid day sun I was glad I wasn't hauling a rack.

Comments: I've always thought we should install an actual rap from this thing before someone snaps off a limb from that tired tree we all down climb. That tree is definitely showing signs of abuse. It's not nearly as healthy as it was in 1996 the first time I did LMD.

Comments: I've done this very thing for 30 years. Totally fine. Once the clove is snug it's not moving on the biners, and two big chicken heads is more than adequate for a belay.
