Comments: Wow! This thing is wild! We finally got back out there and got to the base of it with enough time. Somehow I talked my friend Nathan into leading it as I figured he would get more out of the experience then I would. He found it to be a little tough and pretty intimidating. At about the 2/3 point he was standing on a rock ledge that blew out on him, the nail that caught him was not so solid he said. Seemed he thought he could pull it out with his fingers! Also, you might want to be good at high s... more >>

Comments: For those of you who aren't familiar with the area like I was The Pot Holes Area is located up the road from the other 2 areas, there are like 3 kiosk setups spread through the large parking area which can help you verify you are in the right place. The tower is on the same side of the canyon as all the other routes in the DB.
We climbed Bunny Ramp past the anchors and became highly un-motivated so we figured we should go bag the cool looking tower. Not knowing where the Pot Holes were we spo... more >>

Location: CO : Grand Junction : Escalante Canyon : Interiors Wall Area : Pony Express aka Bunny Ramp (5.6) By: Jason Kaplan When: Oct 26, 2009 | view comment >> |
Comments: Going past the anchors felt pretty PG. It's probly safer for the leader, my partner placed a large cam about 8 or so feet above the bolts in the bunny ramp crack and extended it with a cordelete before commiting to the traverse. Both of us were looking at an unprotected swing. My partner completed the traverse and didn't like what he saw so he set up a belay off the anchor above interiors and belayed me up. When I cleaned the large cam, I was looking at a nasty dropping swing into a 90 degree ... more >>

Comments: Anyone climbed the other side of this analogous crack? I onsighted it this afternoon just barely. Felt fairly tough, maybe 5.10. I'm not sure it warrants a pg rating but I could be wrong. Short and sweet for sure.

Comments: It's kind of like a zipline but you control the speed of your descent via a belay device. It's mostly used as a canyoneering technique for getting a group by a raging torrent of water where a rap would put them in the water.

Comments: Yeah, please forgive me. I'm stuck in Ohio now and for the last week so I'm in a bit of a sour mood. Not to mention I've not had a good year for climbing in general, I guess. BTW, I know how to add my contribution. I've not been up there in over 2 or 3 years since it started to get popular, so I don't feel I should give a rating on anything at this point in time. I was just trying to state what I remembered hearing from others.

Comments: I've got no problems with putting it up as stated before, I was just surprised at the change in attitude I guess since I hadn't been back in so long as I figured it was already getting over run.

Comments: Hu.... there is another problem called dead marmot in the elict area put up by a Justin H. My friend Justin's last name is cockrin (not sure of the spelling, from Illinois hangs with J. Kehl) that put up this line(on a different rock then the other dead marmot put up by the other justin) I'm slightly confused.

Comments: Wow! Timeline is V0+ but this is V2? and ohithians is V1? Dead on! I can do this one in my tennis shoes or mostly with out feet at all, no way can that be done on the other 2 but yet this is rated the hardest... Something is wrong, Ohithians used to be V3 and so was timeline. I don't see how they were downgraded but this wasn't.

Comments: The NFS is not pleased with the spur trail that has been created by fishermen and climbers to access the upper basin from Summit Lake. Just FYI.

Comments: I'm shocked! I thought everyone and their mom was against letting information leak in this area. That's why I never put it up. People seemed to be vexed even when you mentioned the area a few years ago when it was first blowing up in popularity. We should tell everyone about areas B, C, D, the Arials, and Lincolin park too while we're at it maybe then we can stash enough pads to get Mt. Evans closed to climbing all together! I was personally asked to keep my mouth shut about the area a few years... more >>

Comments: Sorry man, there is a voluntary closure in that area the whole time it is in prime condition for riding. Next time we're just going to have to sack up and do it in the winter or early spring befor the closure is in effect. If you or anyone else is interested let me know it will be super hardcore considering the approach and commitment involved. I need a better winter bag for sure before I do that.
Also looking to ride the N. couloir off pacific again but in more winter like conditions next tim... more >>

Comments: Chris, your right the hand jam is sweet! I think that's why I flashed it actually, pure jamin skillz helped me. I can also relate to your feeling of failure, I've had that happen to me on super slab a few times.

Comments: Right on Luke, I just saw that you added a bunch of stuff. I have no idea if you or Pat found it first but I know (the shoulder boulder) that's what he's refering to it as.
I would change it, but I have no idea who's correct so we'll keep it as is for now. Thanks for adding to it.

Comments: Nice job drilling on lead! I did skip a bolt or two (in the roofs if I remember correctly), mostly from being pumped and not seeing the easy clipping stance (I need to get better at hanging from an arm and a leg and clipping)

Comments: I found going right made life easier also. I wondered if that was the intended way. If it is, the 2 finger pocket that's all chalked up is a bit deceiving. Great route, the roofs were fun! I have to come back and get it clean.

Comments: So the nails are for protection? how big are they? no hangers, strait up pounded into dirt? This thing looks pretty sweet but how solid is it?
