Comments: I belayed Henning on an onsight lead attempt. He ended up down-climbing before the undercling much to my relief.

Comments: Anyone know why this climb has never been "R" rated? "edit" Whelp, I'm going to be honest and give it an "R" as I recall placing three pieces and only one of them kept you off the deck while doing the crux.

Comments: Speaking from the experience of arresting the fall of a "noob" due to a catastrophic rapping mistake, I would never, ever, have someone new to climbing try rapping. The bolt is old, but anywhere you go there is an aspect of trusting old manky bolts with your life.

Comments: Many of the pitches on the Nose have short sections of 5.6, 5.7 that are mandatory free or super ackward to aid i.e a flaring chimney. The difficulty comes in free climbing a 20ft 5.6 section in aid shoes and tons of gear.

Comments: I've only done this thing once, and it was an exciting on-site to say the least. I agree that it looks a lot easier from the ground.

Comments: Yeah, like those pussies that use ropes to clip into protection in the rock, real climbers aren't afraid like those shit, pissing, pussies.

I would say this demonstration is less an expression of style and more one of freakish strength highlighted by the lack of shoes.

Comments: If you get the two underclings in the roof and pull directly onto the middle of the face you can't reach the right hand arete. The sequence on the route was hard to find but well worth the effort.

Comments: I went straight up from the beginning crack utilizing the big bulge with my left hand and going for the ledge. From the pin I went diagonally up and left to the top. I had a similar experience as I attempted this climb ground up. I pulled the bottom crux and thought I was done only to fall at the second crux getting to the ledge. There is awesome feeling of exposure on this climb as you finish up above the pin.

Comments: I believe it's fair to highlight the fact that I had never been to the major/minor mass before and was adamant to my climbing partner that pigeon roof was hammer crack. We didn't get on ladyfingers I believe as I didn't know where we were climbing till after we had returned to the car and the guidebook. These moments of idiocy did not faze me as I've often experienced them in my climbing career. Since we didn't know the area we figured the route we did was something. It felt 5.10a/b R to the... more >>

Comments: Anyone know the name of the route that goes immediately to the right of this climb? I believe we were climbing to the left of Lady fingers. The climb was hard off of the ledge, and you didn't get pro till hitting a nice horizontal crack. Afterwards the crux involved some tricky movement with side-pulls and an under-cling, finishing on the face to the right of the arete next pigeon roof.

Comments: It seems that reasonable is a relative term. Leading at the lake gives a rather skewed perspective of what good gear entails.

Comments: Thanks for the info Alex. I had heard that Tommy D had led it in the past and that the current name was a goof on Pete C's accent.

Comments: I've wondered how much I'm fooling myself when there's a significant runnout above negligable gear. Am I leading, or simply soloing while placing gear as mental succor. At some point your just soloing with a rope. Not trying to take anything away from the climb, I've always thought this to be an exceptional line, but it's something I've thought about in my free time.

Comments: Harder then soloing, or harder then top-roping? The inherent nature of protection is to protect the climber. Otherwise it's only there to weigh you down. Granted a route with little to no protection will be more difficult to climb without the security of a TR, but a climb sans gear qualifies as a solo.
