Comments: Sharkstooth is in the upper left corner. The trick to the descent is to go through the gap in the cliffs just above the roundish snowfield in the center of the photo.

Comments: Looking up, this is the right chimney. It is probably the wrong way because we ended up roping up and climbing a tough bomb-bay section above this photo with a few 5.6 moves. Try the left chimney instead...

Comments: Class 3 from here to Estes Park, it helps if you have done the Gash before though. So climb the N ridge of Sharkstooth before climbing PG...

Comments: The descent you use on PG determines the level of commitment and the "alpine" classification of the climb: The Gash descent is much longer and somewhat tricky to find, but it is a walk-off and therefore safer than rappelling. The new bolted rap-superhighway turns the climb into a casual roadside outing similar to something in Eldorado, especially if you consider rappelling not to be dangerous. How do I know that the descent makes the difference? As I topped out after the run-out seventh pitch ca... more >>

Comments: The route is 7 pitches with 60-m rope. I agree with Warren, the route goes near the left edge of the face. The edge has some good gear and exciting exposure. Half-way up, the edge has the bolted top anchor of a sport-climb (Shoyu State). There are adequate belays (at least 2 bomber pieces) on every pitch, just don't use up all cams of the same size during the pitch... We used a lot of Aliens and a few nuts, and we wished we had a #2 Cam several times (only brought up to #1). To overc... more >>

Comments: The standard route is less slabby than the left route.

Comments: This route is slabby, and in places run-out. There are a few trickier moves up thin grooves and lay-backs with far-enough pro that a 5.4 leader would be terrified. So, while I agree with Shad that this is not sustained 5.7, make sure you can lead 5.7 granite before heading up this climb. 5 pitches, no need for cams above #1, bring a lot of small cams, Aliens, and medium nuts.

Comments: I think the first pitch is the crux, at 5.6 or so. You can see that the climb is slabby, not really a crack-climb. There is no finger or hand-jamming, just grooves and just enough small cracks for pro.
