Comments: That big dome looks a lot like a picture Steve Cheyney showed me, he called it Pond Rock.

Comments: Amazing arete climbing! One of the best .10s at Shelf in my opinion. Heads up - the second bolt hanger has been mangled by a rock and is bent over pretty good. If anyone is planning on doing this route, maybe bring a hanger & wrench to replace it. Threads were rusted, so it could be a PITA & need a new bolt installed.

Comments: FA Bill Schmausser. The bolting is on the sporty side if you don't take any supplemental gear. Some micro nuts, a green & red Camalot make it less runout.

Comments: Definitely not photo shopped, that is the original pic. The flash came on so it brightened up the rock for sure. This killer .11+ crack route is located on Mt. Herman near Monument, Co.
Here's my theory: this splitter crack bisects a 60' free standing pillar which has a perfect bird of prey flat hangout spot on the summit. I think that some big ass bird like a turkey vulture or golden eagle got a hold of a grey fox carcass and sat up there and ate it. Over time it worked it's way down the crack ... more >>

Comments: Some asshole took the biners at the anchors. Currently there are single quicklinks on the hangers. If anyone is planning on doing this route soon, you may want to bring a couple extra links so your rope won't get twisted to shit.

Comments: FA Glenn Schuler & Kevin Mclaughlin. This was the first Penitente route I put up with Kevin the day he showed me the place. I had spent many hours the weeks prior hand drilling and cutting my super sweet, janky, red, homeboy hangers in anticipation of my trip. I was just a punk kid & didn't know any better, good times!

Comments: So I was at the Rock Garden last week and checked out DOA from the adjacent climb while I was lowering. I could see the holds I used pretty well, they are still there.

Comments: As good as they come for mid-.11 Shelf routes, highly recommended! As such, this thing should be at the top of the list of routes that need a bolting upgrade. If/when I get my hands on some ASCA hardware, I'll be glad to put in some work & get 'er done.

Comments: Thanks putting up another good route, guys! I really liked this one, pretty continuous moves the whole way with some sweet, sinker pockets. Should clean up nicely with more traffic.

Comments: Thanks for the work, Jason. I ripped that fixed pin out whipping onto it sometime in the late '80s, I think. I had placed an RP just below it thankfully. It was a pretty short pin, maybe 1 1/2" long if I remember right. Hopefully you got in something solid.

Comments: Monty and Jason are both correct - I put the route up with Mark Milligan and Jason helped me with the name many years after the fact.
The route is a bit contrived, but the main goal was to protect the direct start of Undertow so people would actually climb it.

To give credit where it is due, Dan & Nathaneal put the anchors in on this one. Thanks a lot, guys!

Comments: NNNOOOOOOOOOooooooooo!!! Not "the" flake for the traverse move? Did it leave any type of hold to use?
We did it Saturday, and I was commenting to my partner that if there was ever a hold I would consider gluing, that would be the one. Bummer.

Comments: The flake that is used to clip the first bolt flexes, be careful. Better yet stick clip it.
Big runouts on rap bolted routes are lame. That said, this is a rad climb with some great pocket pulling. An additional bolt, some cleaning at the bottom and this thing would easily be three stars.

Comments: "Excellent route for the grade". WTF does that even mean? If it was a different grade, it would not be as good? A good route is a good route, whatever the hell you think the grade is.
