Comments: I felt like there were two crux sections on this climb, the first about a third of the way up before working over to the arete, and the second about two thirds of the way up on the buttress. A few rests can be found on this route; I found it useful to take advantage of them. Great exposure.

Comments: This climb is fantastic, and certainly a classic test piece.

Pitch 1 feels a little harder than 10+ to me at its crux. It's about 70 feet.

Pitch 2 is excellent and very committing. We did the right hand variation (the hanging corner); plan on solid 10 well above your gear. Once at the top of the corner you must traverse left approx 20 feet left to rejoin the route at two bolts. From here the anchor is more or less 60 feet above you, but some movement to the right and left is need... more >>

Comments: To add to the directions, you can use the link below for an overhead view of the approach in Google Earth. The overhead shows the commonly-used approach to Neptune. The return trip has a bit of a punch, there is an 1100 foot elevation gain.

Comments: This climb is terriffic. The opening crux described above is outrageous, and the remaining climbing will keep your attention through three more very difficult slab sections.

Keep a black alien and a green alien (or equivalent) for the top.

A bee stung me during my second attempt. I managed to get the stinger out on stance and then fell. :)

Comments: That's too bad, John. I would think those guys would be psyched to have you sorting all this stuff out. That would save them a lot of work and would be helpful to the rest of us, too.

I'm glad that one of the admins sorted this area based on your post, though.

Comments: Both of the bolts on the second pitch have been replaced with stainless steel sleeve bolts provided by the ASCA. Many thanks to the ASCA for providing this hardware!

Comments: Hey Andy,

Just climbed this thing yesterday and it was awesome.

Personally I think the new belay is in a better spot. For those who don't know where it is, it is about 20 feet higher and on a good ledge. The pitch winds up being 120 feet.

My suggestion is that we just check with Grossman or one of the other FAs to see if they are cool with it. If so we can simply remove those two old 1/4" buttonheads. I saw the bong is gone, too. I think the climb will be a lot nicer with two less fixed ... more >>

Comments: Hahaha I love origami. I recently made a full size hot air balloon that folds up and fits in my pocket.

I saw some brush painted bolts in Sedona. Some rock star color matched the bolts so well I had a hard time finding them. Pretty awesome but not very easy. Spray painting before putting the bolts on the wall has always been easiest for me.

Comments: A good warmup for the wall and a good way to rap down Neptune. The second pitch is a bit more heady than the first. The crux is around the third bolt on pitch 1.
