Comments: I've added a lower start out of the (very) small, low cave on the bottom left of the face. The start adds at least 5-6 sick moves. I think the first ascensionist missed this glorious line, because it is such a low start that I did have to excavate a little OR more likely -- he just didn't have the strength to do the mandatory 360 degree moves to get to the lip.

To pull the lip, use the half-pad-mono located right at the corner of the arete. It can be turned in a really poor pinch also.

Comments: Easier even than expected. Last pitch might be 5.5, the rest is dead easy. Less gear than I was thinking there would be, but we may have been a little off route. Last pitch was somewhat fun, but the rest was fairly forgettable. More loose rock than a few seasons ago in the west chimney.

Comments: We left a #2 Camalot (and biner) inadvertently at top of p3 or p4 belay (depending how you do it) and did not go back for it due to hail/rain at top of next pitch.

Obviously, would appreciate its return.

Comments: My partner lead the crux pitch in the rain -- that was a little intense for me. As mentioned, the bolts need to be backed up.

As for route finding, I think the main waypoints are find the leaning dihedral for the first pitch that also has thin to medium crack leading onto the ledge above (1-2 pitches), then ramping and traversing right to the thumb on the Giant Flake to your R.

After your 1-2 pitches to ledge/ramp, go up the ramp to the right off of the ledge (usually p3). Traverse to the "G... more >>

Comments: I think started near the "official" start and went roughly straight up. This puts you closer to the far right side than onlined on MP. It was a bit harder and would have been mostly unprotected if I had brought a rope and partner.

Comments: "to his daughter [Giulia]".

I've walked past this a half-dozen times, in the 2 years that I've been climbing, thinking it was [Giulia] who died, not Craig.

I guess the plaque indicates that he said the above words, not that he dedicated that memorial to her.

Comments: Great route. Even more funky traversing than many Eldo classics. Your second will like you if you bring a 4 for above the crux. Mine took a 10' swing onto it.

Comments: Barney is a weird route. Every move truly is 5.9 or less, but it's very easy to go slightly off route onto all the 5.10 that everyone is talking about. 5.9+.

If you think it's harder, you didn't find the best way up or didn't rest when you could.

Hint: Two slight traverses.

Good route.

Comments: KTM --

It's not continuous, there are a few places (2 if I remember right) you need to hike to the next set of bolts. We spent only ~10 minutes looking for the next bolt after the two major hikes, but we had a few other people on the mountain which gave us some extra clues.

Just follow directions, and allow an extra 20-40 minutes to pick the line back up after each brief hike.

Comments: Topo is really good. Would have saved 1 hr on our trip, though the route-finding is half of the fun.

Comments: Paul, sorry to hear that.

We climbed it on 3/14 I believe, there was a nicely tied off cordalette around the pitons for the final repel, and a large nest of new and old slings for the first repel.
